Yeah, but is there an "OUT: Suban" meme?

Suban: 1
Clancee: 0
Good point.
It's all about consistency. Suban has 1 off games that have been outstanding and polled brownlow votes, while other where he has struggled to make an impact (some of these due to injury).

Clancee gives you 7.5/10 every week, while Suban will go 8,4,7,5,9 etc...
Actually, Suban has only polled Brownlow votes once in his career - last year against GWS.

Meanwhile Clancee has polled Brownlow votes on five separate occasions, all in 2012.

Perceptions about the two are strikingly different.

Umpires aren't exactly a great source to base an opinion on a players performance on.

Whilst the Hawks are great kicks, I think that ability gets inflated by their elite ability to spread. They were able to get so much space against us and Essendon in the first half that the kicks didn't need to be pin point. Once Essendon tightened up their kicking wasn't so elite. It's hard to tell from TV but I imagine Suban spent most of the Hawks game chasing tail and then didn't have the fitness to spread when we had the ball.
Sort of. If their forward line is flooded they are still able to execute some of the most precise kicks to find a free man with very little space. They pick the right angles going inside 50 better than any other team.

I think Essendon's comeback was more related to Hodge going off which unsettled their defence.

Well it was cited by Seppo as an identifier for variability in performance for Suban vs consistency for Clancee. But Clancee has played some very good games. He has played more 20+ disposal, 1+ goal games than Suban has.

It is interesting you bring up Clancee Pearce because Nick Suban is yet to have a season as good as Clancee Pearce's 2012. Arguably Clancee Pearce's 2013 would have been better than Suban's had he not finished the season injured.

I don't want Nick Suban to be as good as Ablett. Surely being as good as Clancee Pearce is achievable?

Clancee Pearce has been very good in the past 2 years. Clancees 2012 form was good constantly 20-25 disposals a game and Kicked 16 goals from the wing.

I am probably the biggest fan of Suban in this forum. I get why there are some suban critics out on here. Its because he doesn't get a lot of the ball. He averaged exactly 15 disposals a game in 2013 but kicked 16 goals as well. My favorite Suban game last season was the opening round when he got 18 disposals and 3 goals in the derby.

Suban is easily a best 22 player when on good form. Besides after investing 5 years and 80 odd games in him, it would be stupid to trade him for nothing. Suban is not a star by any stretch but he is not a dud either.

The problem is he only plays like this 2-3 times a year and has his fair share of terrible games too.

He just isn't good enough IMO.

I think in our best 22, a fit and firing Sylvia takes his spot (or Deboers). I'd use him for trade bait to get a good WA boy back from Victoria.

Yep, the dropped mark inside attacking 50 by Suban when we were in front that led to a North goal was the turning point. Should be dropped IMO.

Looks like it might be time. The problem is that we have about a dozen players out of form.

Biggest passenger in the team currently, up there with De Boer, Crozier and Sheridan.

No hate, but he needs to be dropped, for the sake of the team.

He was awful today, but he's been awful all season so it shouldn't be a surprise really.

Was attacked from everywhere when I said he was trade bait if he didn't improve, just a very average player.

That was especially bad.

But it's even the little things. When he wins a good ball inside and breaks the pack, if he can't get on his left and can't find an option up the ground he is effectively useless. Even when he does nice things he burns it by not having any other strings to his bow aside from his left foot. He is a fundamentally limited footballer in his raw skillset, and not a very good one otherwise in terms of footy smarts to make up for it.

Or to put it simply: he's crap.
