Still a decent outlay but looks like Mario Kart World is 10 bucks cheaper at Big W and JB.
I'd be concerned over the DRM/always online/no game on the cartridge, they're going into anti-consumer territory where you can't share/sell physical copies anymore.

Found an ad from I think 1997.

N64 console $299 down from $399. Controller $49. Mortal Kombat Trilogy $119. Turok $129. Cruis'n USA $79.

According to the internets $299 in 1997 is worth about $620 today and $399 is $830.
Seeing those options gets me hyped even today. I really wish I could buy the N64 console with the golden controller option again.

I know I spent $120 Australian dollars on Donkey Kong 64 with the expansion pak.

Essentially this. Games like music and things are license based so isolation fine and don't screw the status quo and people are generally happy if it's something they like so sink coin into. Rise of the streaming services for content. When you have Nintendo things as "we had to urge the higher ups to give free demo software on the Wii and-" and Nintendo then go and openly "here's 3/4 and you download the rest" on 1st party it generally screams anti-consumer.

It's not even about share/sell it's about preservation. By not shipping the full thing and requiring pinging an online instance you are beholden to someone elses server being live and accessible decades later, essentially turning all games into live service. This is dangerous for preservation instances.

It's odd where I say it's great that EA gave away the older source code for the C&C games as that was great for preservation, as now it's accessible for everyone as essentially abandonware to retain, update, alter on their own and give love to. Nintendo, like Sony and others, you just don't trust them to always be there and keep a thing you purchased around to preserve it.

Will be interesting to see what comes out in the wash, cause you'd have to consider that is the NA region specifically, as this flies in the face of several regions that have much stronger regulations in that space, such as Brasil for example.

Would end like like Valve and Steam with such things where it's the we have our way, countries push back and "oh, in these countries we're doing X instead of Y" pops up and companies like Nintendo fold like a bitch.

$49 for an EB Plus membership so I can go the the midnight launch who are you kidding EB

Just for ref, way I am reading it is;

Have Switch -> trade Switch for Switch 2 between 22/5 & 25/5 = get FastPass = attend Midnight/Breakfast launch.(this is the red centre of the banner)

In trade scenario;
If Plus member WL4 = cost = $569.
If not = $769
(this is the right handed part with the cost obviously)

The precursor to attendance is trading in Switch 1 for Switch 2 preorder during that window. That's it.

I asked in-store if you trade in a Switch between the dates you get early access. If you don’t trade in but have a Plus membership, you’re still eligible for midnight launch.
