Preview No Changes vs Saints

Find out how many teams win after making 5 changes.

Making shit loads of changes after making 5 is going around in circles.

I don't get why Pets is selected but I do get why they are trying for minimal changes this week.

I also findbit funny that this morning everyone is shitty because Grigg is dropped. Then when he isn't they are still shitty. Smells like people just want to be shitty.

The mere possibity that he could be dropped is reason enough to be shitty.

Surely people on here had to realise 5 of our AFL 22 were named in the SANFL starting 18 side (which funnily enough the Saints did as well, and only one poster bothered to mention it)? It was fairly bloody obvious.

Unless you sign up to the ducks and drakes theory, it's a clear sign that if a couple of players did go out, they were coming from that group. Would be expecting the sub vest to be thrust upon one of them as they work their way to the 2's. All I was saying is that if you are named in both teams then you're closer (more likely) to be playing sanfl than if you are if you were only named in the seniors.

Of course. What other possible conclusion could you draw?

I've read 3 so far;
1. Cunning and devious ploy to mask the make-up of the sanfl team to maximise our chances of winning that game.
2. Cunning and devious ploy to mask the make-up of the afl team to maximise our chances of winning that game.
3. He may not play at all through injury.

They all make a lot more sense than the selectors viewing Grigg as bordering on being dropped.

Its amazing how much better Lynch is since last year. By late last year he was a fringe player just in our best 22. Fast forward to round 4 2014 and he is essential to our structure.

Make no mistake I want him back in the side. Im just not expecting him to make us dramatically better.

Faith in admin, faith in coaches, faith in players, faith in gameplan. All of it mis-placed. I think we've reached the point where we simply have to hope that the opposition is worse than us. We don't seem to have the tools or desire to improve under our own steam. Is there any are where we are not going backwards.

Aren't we just elevating Lynch to be a bit beyond his capabilities to be more important to the team than the reality is

No doubt a players standing is elevated if they aren't in the team when we are struggling, but we are still seriously missing Thomas the tank engine.

Considering he led the club in marks (average top 5 in AFL), goals, second in score assists to douglas i think, and there was some ridiculous statistic that 70% of the time he touched the ball we scored. Also ranked 8th in the AFL for scoreboard impact, and had the 5th best winning percentage in the league for offensive one-on-one contests.

We are 6th from inside 50's this year having played 3 top 6 teams from last year, but are second last for average goals. He might be getting over hyped, but is still extremely important.

The same thing has happened to Tex, he is almost god like in Adelaide, i hope we play pods alongside him when he returns because the expectation on tex will be huge from his first game, which is unfair

Really hope Pup can stick it up everyone he has played a lot more good footy for the AFC than anyone will give him credit for. Another north moment would be delicious.

Pup was huge during the season in 2012 (not so much finals), with some commentators expecting him to emulate cyril. He hasn't got back to that form due to fitness, injury, confidence etc.
If he can recapture that form, it will be great for the side. It will also make others better around him

The same 22 has three ten goal losses in a row behind them - they don't deserve the faith.
The team cannot be a revolving door, we need a win this week to get our season on track and make a play for finals. We were always going to pick an experienced side. A little surprising CEY didn't get a chance though, may get a late call up

Get gobsmacked sometimes on BF .
Petrenko should gets some runs in the mids. Isn't he useless enough up forward and now they want to spread it all over the field.
Then this great statement that Lynch was only a fringe player for us last year .
Apart from forgetting 10 goal game, he gave us a avenue right up until injured and was a shining light up forward before and after Tex injury.

Jesus Mattrox surely you can understand people wanted a couple of changes but Grigg wasn't one of them.

a play for finals ?

3 weeks in and I already know that there's no way in the world that we'll finish higher than Hawthorn, Port, Fremantle, Collingwood, Geelong, Sydney, Essendon. There is 7 spots in the 8 right there ans considering teams like West Coast are three games in front that's already a massive advantage over us, to put it simply it's already blantantly obvious that we aren't even close to being good enough to make the eight.

We have players in tne first 22 not performing such as Thommo, Jflog, JJ, pets and they continue to get picked and we have players in the Ravens who have been in good form for a fair while in CEY and Lyons and they cant get a game to save themselfs. I wonder why there might be some discontent in the player ranks.

Some of your observations are interesting. Based on last week how could you say JPod is not performing. He clearly wasn't gonna get dropped after having 23 possessions, 9 marks and 1.1 goals on top of some great defensive acts.

Thommo got injured in first quarter so too hard to say.

JJ was very good around the ground and leading up to the ball carrier. His goal accuracy was poor though.

Petrenko is the only one I can agree with.

Regarding the sanfl side, they were terrible. No one stepped up and demanded selection. CEY was one who did but his efficiency was quite poor.

Lyons didn't demand selection.

The forwards i thought were ok effort wise last week.... What destroyed us was the complete cessation of any form of run from the midfield and half backs....

At one point, there were 3 Sydney players just strolling through the midfield and raffled it around to score a goal... embarrassing stuff.

Not sure what teh forwards were meant to be doing there.... In fact thats our probelm, they get sucked up the ground trying to cover the lazy mids.

Granted I'm just playing devils advocate for a moment, but last season (and even at the start of this) posters were calling for the head of coach every time Jaensch was selected. He was near the top of of the list of every trade/delist conversation. Sando did choose to play him and it would seem his faith may be paying off with Jaensch being more than serviceable for us this year. Sure he still has deficiencies, but it would be hard to argue against his best 22 status.

Now this could be an indictment on the quality of our list, or or could be evidence of Sando's gold pass philosophy working. He tried it with Porps and during the preseason it looked as though may have worked, however come the regular season that doesn't look to be the case. Mackay had a gold pass last year and he is been better this year.

Do I agree with the method? No, as more damage is done in the process of growing the potatoes than on planting a few other vegetables. While a few potatoes may come good, I'd rather see a couple of carrots and maybe some corn in our vege garden..... And weeds, don't get me started on weeds!

Hendo got injured and it opened up a spot. Good on Jaensch for taking it but there aren't too many other options.

The test of Sando's faith in Jaensch is if he has a couple of quiet games. Does he instantly get dropped the same as all our 15-32 players seem to (except Petrenko)? Or will Sando stick with him?

All this talk about Jaensch. I'm fine with Jaensch playing but there should be a line drawn across the centre of the oval, and jaenchy should be tied to a rope which prevents him ever crossing into the defensive half…like the dog in foghorn leghorn that gets yanked when he reaches the rope line….doo dah, doo dah.

At this point in time it's hard to argue with your point, however the only thing I would add is that IMO Collingwood are far from certainties, the Pies looked ordinary, under sized and defensively brittle in round 1, since then they have played Carlton and Richmond who are travelling as bad as we are at present so I'm struggling to pencil the Pies in as top 8 side however that may change in the coming weeks

West coast like last year they are starting to get smacked by injuries and Essendon who knows what will happen with them between now and round 22

All we can do is control what we can control and that is win games and as we all know our end position on the ladder will be performance based and will reflect where we deserve to be

Overall I am happy with the final team. If we are tanking, at least we are being subtle. Bringing Smack straight back in would be far too obvious,

Sando is pretty consistent in his selections if you crack the code.

1) Structure is king. For example, he does not like to play 3 talls in the forward line and does not rate the role of a second ruck very highly. Late last season our second ruck was who? Well spotted Spackler, it was Andy Otten. Ideally we play 2 tall forwards, 1 crumbing forward, 1 defensive forward and 1 lead up player (lynch) and rotate midfielders through the F50 to complete the picture. The problem we have at the moment is that we don't have a decent Lynch type player. Last week JPod and JJ were wasted leading up to the wing and then having no one to kick it to.

2) We don't have depth, we have about 20 players that are fringe AFL players. We could drop half a dozen of these guys and bring in 6 of their mates and it will back little difference. We don't have heaps of out and out spuds (OK, I'll give you Gus) but lots of guys that are not quite up to it (Martin, LJ, Pets) or not ready yet (CEY) according to Sando. Sando has a clear ranking and he takes a lot of convincing to change his order. Older players like Stiffy and Porps have to play lots of bad footy to drop down the order but when they're gone, they're gone.

Sando ranked Matt Crouch above Lyons from the day he submitted his draft form and the only chance Jarryd will have is if we are decimated with injuries to midfielder. His possessions per TOG in the preseason and round 1 was excellent but he can dominate in the SANFL all season but it won't make any difference.

3) Finally, Sando selects the 22 that he believes will have the best chance of winning the upcoming match. This means we never see speculative selections like Port, Collingwood and Hawthorn. If in doubt, check the batting order.

I have a strong feeling you are correct with this.......but I still don't want to read/accept it:(
