WHO GETS DELISTED?

WHICH COACHES GET THE CHOP?

WHO DO WE TRY TO RECRUIT?

Its time to make some tough calls if we are ever going to get to and then win a Granny.

What we must not do is make some obscure bloke a scapegoat for the sake of being seen to be doing something about our predicament.

Key People in the playing, coaching, and administration parts of our club need to GO

THOUGHTS........................???????????

Keep Bomber unless we can get Creswell back. I would rather Cressy as coach then Bomber. The whole speacialist coaching staff need an overhaul.

Delist: Gardiner, Macca or Playfair and maybe Slade?

Retire: Ricco :(

Trade: KK and hopefully find another Stoksey with a 3rd or 4th round pick. Kelly if we can get a draft pick under 20 for him otherwise keep him.

i agree with everthing you say. But Creswell will not come back to Geelong. He left for a reason and thats because his wife didnt like it much down there, so i doubt he will move back down. I think Koula will be gone at the end of year as well. Also Playfair will stay on the list.

out: gardiner, mccarthy, kingsley, kelly (trade for 2nd round pick), koula, spencer, ricco (retire)
in: hawkins, 1st round pick, two 2nd rounds, 4th round, 5th round, elevate slade and grima and maybe batchelor off rookie list

that would be mine but maybe with a few other things

Maybe they should live in Werribee or somewhere like that? It only takes an hour or so and there wont be much traffic and they will be living in Melbourne.

Oh and I forgot delist Spencer.

or even down the surf coast or bellarine

WHO GETS DELISTED?

Matthew McCarthy
Paul Koulourotis
Matthew Spencer
Peter Riccardi (retired)

Other players that need to be strongly considered but will likely be given 1 more season - Charlie Gardiner, Henry Playfair and Mark Blake. Blake has shown me nothing, he can get the odd hitout at AFL level but he has neither the skills or the aerobic capacities to be a good ruckman at the highest level. I mean even when he develops he will not be able to contain the likes of Dean Cox, Jeff White, Troy Simmonds etc... Sure enough he wont be delisted because of his name - but he is going nowhere and taking the club with him.

WHAT COACHES NEED TO GO?

Ken Hinkley (skills), Andy Lovell (midfield), Steve Hocking (whatever it is that this hack does) all must go!

WHO DO WE TRY TO RECRUIT?

Aker would be good, but I cannot see us getting him with Thompson still as head coach. Plus we would have to part with James Kelly / Corey Enright to have a remote chance of getting him.

Kent Kingsley needs to be traded, what we could get remains to be seen. Personally I'd try and get Tom Williams form the WB as a mobile KP fwd / defender.

Otherwise settle for whatever bunch of picks we can get for him :(

Do you want to be at the bottom of the ladder for a while. Getting rid of this amount of guys in your team would kill off any aspirations for finals next year.

Lonergan, while only just injured should not continue his career. Even though it would be a great story, I wouldn't try to comeback into a very physical sport with only one kidney left. So there would be another player, and especially a young and tall utility who will be sorely missed.

We can afford to lose only 3-4 players before losing the capability to play finals, my thoughts are to keep Macca now due to Lonergan's injury and possible retirement. Ricco gone to pasture, trade Kingsley, and delist or try to trade Gardiner.

We have to keep Spencer and Macarthy due to their size, and mainly due to the most likely scenario of losing Lonergan.

Kelly, must be kept. He dominated only 3 years ago. The coaching staff have let him, Kingsley and a few others lose their skills.

Get rid of Lovett and Hinkley. That is the best option.

Retire
Peter Riccardi - Farewell to a Geelong champion.
Tom Lonergan - I know Sam Newman continued to play but the game is different now, he'll have to finish up. Gotta feel sorry for the bloke, plays his best game for the Cats then ends his career.
Kent Kingsley - They'll probably talk him into leaving the honourable way instead of getting delisted.

Delist
Matt McCarthy - 5 years, done nothing.
Paul Kolouriotis - If he can't get a game even when he's racking up 40+ possesions I think he's gone. Will probably be kept as a VFL top-up.
Charlie Gardiner - See McCarthy.

Rookie List
Will Slade - Gone, decent player but Callan probably keeps him off the list.
Sam Hunt - Gone, was basically picked to fill up the rookie list.
Nick Batchelor - Gone, injuries didn't help.
Tim Sheringham- Gone, no room for everyone.
Todd Grima - Safe, will be the nominated rookie next year.

Trade
I don't Geelong will feature to much in trade week. Too many clubs will want draft picks and I think Geelong will go for youth in the draft instead of recycled players.

Draft
1st Round - If a player such as Scott Gumbleton, Mitch Thorp or Lachlan Hasen fall this low go for them but they most likely won't so I'd say Geelong will go for some like Albert Proud.
2nd Round - It'll depend on whose available then. There could be a few highly rated player that could slip down here (eg. Shannon Hurn last year.)
3rd Round - Well, we all know about Tom Hawkins.
4th Round - Another Mathew Stokes or Matt Egan would be nice.

Coaching
Mark Thompson - Safe for one more year. Geelong start looking for a replacement for 2008.
Andy Lovell - In danger. The midfield has slowy gotten worse in his time here. Best possible replacement: Darren Creswell. Not completely sure why he left. May aswell ask if he wants to return.
Brendan McCartney - Safe. He coaches one of the best backline in the league.
Ken Hinkley - In danger. Forwards not producing. Best possible replacement: John Longmire. Would be hard but worth a try.
Leigh Tudor - Safe. Especially if the VFL wins the flag this year.

OUT:

RETIRE:
Riccardi (Champion)
Lonergan (Very sad end)

TRADE:
Kelly (early 2nd round)
Kingsley (late draft pick If we can. Otherwise will be delisted)

DELIST:
Gardiner (5 years with little result... Times up)
McCarthy (As Above)
Koula (Far to many players ahead of him)

ROOKIES:
S. Hunt, Sherringham, Batchelor, Slade (All Delisted)

IN:

Draft picks 8, 20 (possible trade for kelly), 24, 40 (Hawkins), 45 (possible trade for Kingsley from maybe WCE or Dogs?), 56

May take uncontracted player in pre season draft

Also, Grima retained on rookie list and Milburn put on veterns list

With our last pick would we go for someone like Davenport from the VFL? or would we rookie list him.

Top stuff, nearly agree with everything. Would have to keep Macca or Kingsley now that Lonergan is out for a while, or possibly his career.

Longmire would be ok, was a great kick for goal so that could only improve. Stoneham would be great too, also Budha as the midfield coach ??? Make it an ol' skool GFC affair. Toughen up the likes of Kelly, Tenace, Mackie etc.

Grima definitely a nominated rookie, loved his efforts on Saturday.

Kingsley, definitely has an option of a trade. He is wanted, yeah by himself, but another team also.

Trade Steven King and get Meesen or Leuenberger.

Sack the entire coaching staff and replace with John Longmire and assistants that he chooses.

Keep the new fitness coach.

Delist or trade Kingsley, Gardiner, Playfair, McCarthy, Koulouriotis.

Retire Riccardi

Chop Slade, Batchelor, S Hunt and Sheringham

Grima nominate rookie.

Draft Tom Hawkins and 4 skilled running players.

Interesting to read Scott Palmers predictions in the paper yesterday in regards to the outcomes of the review. He believed Bomber would stay on to finish his contract and that Geelong would make some big decisions in culling their list and would be major players during trade week.

I think we have grossly undervalued the worth of some of our tradable players also. Think back over the last few years what clubs have given for players such as Chambers, Street, Cole & Watts. Even Nathan Thompson, Troy Simmons and Ottens were big risks given what was given up by their new clubs.

You get the feeling that players such as Koula, Charlie, McCarthy, Playfair and Kingsley are in the gun and Kel would be the big barganing chip in the back of the cats mind should a super opportunity arise.

Now I realise that some may be worthless, but I think you might find that Kent will have a sizeable figure on his head and wont be leaving for a 3rd or 4th round pick. He's kicked over 200 goals in his career (combine that with the 800 odd ponits and out on the fulls so he's had a fair bit of the pill, eh!) so he would be in demand. St Kilda took a huge risk with Watts (traded for their 1st round pick) considering he was untried so a proven goalkicker should be worth more than what bigfooty posters have suggested.

Kelly is the big one. I have said before that I would keep him but I'm not the one who makes those decisions. Seems to be out of favour ATM but hopefully with a full preseason should be back on track. BUT if we want to snare a big fish then we need to use some quality bait. Don't forget the Pies were prepared to part with their first pick a few years back to get Kel. Ready made midfielders (especially at his age) are worth a fair bit more than what you may think.

Coaches:

If Bomber has lost the respect of the players, which is the whisper i have been hearing then he has to go... other than that he deserves another year, this may just be a blip on the radar!! Hes worked to hard to be shafted because of one bad year!!

Lovell appears to have taken the midfield backwards!! he may be gone.

hinkley has the hardest job of the assistants, figuring out how to fix this forward line is like rocket science. Possibly time for a new forward coach.

Back line good, once Harley gets form and fitness up all will be well again.

Players:

retired: ricco
Possibly Lonergan which is ****

trade:
Well try to trade Kingsley, but i don't think they will get alot.
Possibly Kelly if there is a great deal on offer (for reasons see my other tread)

Delist:

Spencer
McCarthy/ Gardiner (if Lonergan retires keep one of them)
Koula

MIND YOU TRY AND IF SOME ONE THESE BLOKES CAN BE TRADED GO FOR IT!

Keep Blake needs more time
I'd keep will slade, showed alot when he played

we can't be to drastic with changes, but something needs to happen

Don't agree with the Spencer delisting suggestion. He filled a hole left by injured players against Essendon and Freo and didn't get carved up. Good back-up option and has the height and strength to match it with larger opponents

What do you mean didn't get carved up against Essendon. Lucas carved him up. Then when he went to Johns Johns looked really good. I think we can say he won't make it at AFL. Just looks way to slow for the AFL. And if Lonergan can make it back, what i hope you would have to think that there would be no room for him. Maybe a trade to West Coast or Freo.

Players:

Delist: Gardiner, Slade, S.Hunt
Trade regardless of offer: Kingsley, McCarthy
Put on the table: Playfair, Kelly
Look for a ball carrier in trade week.

Something like pick up Eagleton (27y/o) for Kingsley (to WB) & draft pick we receive for McCarthy/Playfair.
McCarthy/Playfair (to AFC) for Adelaide's 3rd/2nd round pick.

Kick in the pants for S.Johnson & Kelly. King one more year as captain depending on if preseason goes well.

Coaches:
Sack Hinkley & Lovett
* Offer Carey/Longmire forward coach position with buckets of money.
* Well established midfield coach (if we can poach) or G.Hocking
* If rumours are true replace Bomber with McKenna or Creswell.

Draft:
pick 1 & 2 - Midfielders with exellent disposal
pick 3 - Hawkins
Later picks:a ruckmen and then let scouts find talent (ala Stokes & Egan)

Preseason
Early start, overall lift in workload similar to what Adelaide did for preseason
King must be pushed hard
Josh Hunt to improve aerobic capacity
Ablett to be molded as a midfeilder
Ottens to lose 5 kgs
Steve Johnson and Kelly made into accountable footballers

a few more preseason things?

N.Ablett is listed as 96kg at the moment I think he needs to build up more in the shoulders and arms (body strength for contested marks) so get him on the weights hopefully around 99-100kg. He isn't quick so not like he will lose pace. Also put lots of kms into his legs so he can work more often at CHF and be able to get up and down the field. Mooney will prob be primary CHF but I think Nathan should also get a good run out their or on flank against some opponents.

Woj and Tenace besides the running they need extra skills work on their kicking at times it can let them down and would be good to have guys of their pace putting it long in front of a leading forward and not over their heads. Maybe some decision making development for all the on ballers as well.

Ottens after injury can do a full preseason (endurance) incase needs to spend extra time rucking next year (3 tall forwards of ablett, mooney and occasionally hawkins may allow this in certain games).

all forwards tons of goal kicking to get confidence and accuracy from inside 50 back up.

all players tackling practice everygame should be like rooke against sydney where when ever the opponent gets it they get tackled and if not they have inferred pressure. back to 1%ers for everyone get them smothering chasing tackling in all games not just when they feel like it.

Mooney extra decision making (might get him reported less). when angry hit the ball harder not the guy standing next to you.
