I'm personally not dissapointed by this, the draft is the obvious way to bolster out list this year. What are your thoughts?

Why did clubs need a whole week to make only 7 trades!!! CraZy!

As for Geelong not trading I'm a bit annoyed that SJ didn't get traded (but we sure scared him I bet!). There wasn't much if anything on offer for him so that all fair enough. Just hope he can prove me wrong and make me think he is a good player NOT JUST A SHOWPONY! ;)

The super draft will be great, lets hope we get some hope for our future from it.

The draft is the obvious way to bolster the list but if you want to do it properly you need to trade for extra draft picks.

7, 25, 41 (Hawkins), 57, 73, 89, 105.

You can't have a clean out with those selections. Realistically we will only use up to pick 57, 4 selections including Tommy H, so with Kent already walking out that is only three further delistings (+1 if we waste our time upgrading Slade).

2007 - Same coach, same list, same ****, different date.

Disagree, Bomber has shown he is quite happy to bolster our draft picks buy trading players. It is time we stopped doing that now we have a core of more senior players.

Agree.

So gone will be Lonergan, Koula, Kingsley and McCarthy.

If we want to upgrade a rookie, Playfair, Gardiner and Spencer would be watching their backs.

all we were offerring were duds or injury suspect players, I am not surprised no other club wanted to trade with us. KK and whoever else is delisted will go the the PSD and we will get nothing for them. That is what is disapointing

IT WON'T BE A WASTE OF TIME! :(

At the start of last year I believed we had the right list of players to win us a premiership (that may have been foolish). Yes, this list hasn't changed and we have the same coach but I think so many of the games we lost in season 06 was about the clubs attitude, culture and **** efforts on field. The question now is can this change over the summer? Bomber is either on another planet or he believes that our list can win a premeirship, otherwise he would have traded, right?

We finished 10th this year with that core of senior players.

There was nothing much on offer anyway. It could only have been draft picks. Plenty of clubs haven't bothered trading this year. Rather take what you can in the draft.

I think this will force us to select an onballer with draft choice no.7 Bomber has been saying he will trade and draft for run and carry. With Hawkins confirmed with pick 41 its hard to see us selecting Sellar or Thorp with 7. That would only leave us with 2 choices to pick running players.

If Geelong have 7, 25, 41, 57, 73 etc - it probably makes sense not trading.

One of the worst AFL rules is that if you trade for a draft pick you have to use it at the National Draft.

You are obliged to use 3 Draft Picks ie. Geelong has to use 7, 25, 41 no matter what. You would also expect that they would save one selection for the Pre-season draft.

So, its pointless trading Callan, Kingsley etc for a pick worse than 25 if Geelong will create room for 4 draftees. If Geelong knew they only wanted to bring in four players... trading Callan or Kingsley for anything worse than 25 says even a reasonable pick like 29 is silly.

If Geelong traded Callan and Kingsley for 29 it would mean that Geelong would have to draft with 7 and 29 and pass on 25. Obviously Geelong know who is gone on their list and who isn't.

It kind of makes sense now even more when you consider Geelong wanted to trade Johnson and pick 25 for a better pick - they weren't interested in a straight pick 28 from Collingwood because it would cause the same problem.

I suspect Geelong only want to draft with 7 and 25; Take Tom Hawkins under father son; and pass on 57 in the National Draft and use it for the preseason draft. Being conservative.

At least 3 listed players will be delisted.

Probably McCarthy, Koula and either Gardiner or Spencer.

We also have Riccardi's retirement and Kingsley quiting. I think we will use pick 7, 25, 41 (Hawkins), 57 and pass on pick 73 to use in the pre-season draft.

You never know, we may get a decent uncontracted player in the pre-season draft.

Disappointed we got nothing for Kingsley, but not disappointed that he's leaving.

Disappointed we didn't get Bradshaw - it sounds like they had a fair crack at him, which is all you can do.

Glad we kept SJ once the Bradshaw deal fell through - pick #28 (Collingwood)was not a good enough offer for him IMO.

Glad we kept Callan - I just hope he gets some more opportunities to prove his worth at AFL level this year.

Glad we didn't get Tarrant, Solomon or Medhurst - I don't think they would have improved us all that much.

Was to be expected really. All this talk of the superdraft and no clubs want to give up high picks. No high picks, no big trades. Can't blame them really.

by the looks of it the pre season draft will be very good so maybe even use pick 57 in the pre season if all the quality players have gone in the national draft. the reason for why we didnt get anything for kent was because he told the media that he was leaving which meant that any club could pick him up in the pre season for free because they know that he would be there and not at the club, next time a tip for average players leaving clubs, dont announce it before trade week because your much better of acting as though you are staying at the club next year which will give the idea to all that you wont be in the pre season so they will have to trade for you

Gee, thats one huge sentence mate! You do make a bit of sense though.

I think picks 25 and 57 need to be used on pacy players. Pick 7 will be used on the best available which is most likely going to be a sliding Thorp or Sellar, with Selwood and Proud definite chances. So its more than likely the 1st pick won't be the pacy, skillful player everyone has been talking about. That means that there are only 2 picks where we can draft the required pace and skill.

So pick 57 will be used on hopefully the quickest available skillful footballer, not the quickest available athlete. So only the one pre-season pick is needed.

Apart from Thornton and Russell, who will probably both end up re-signing now anyway, who else is there available in this quality PSD? I don't think it will be worth holding over a national draft selection myself, we might as well just pick the kid we want in the ND so someone else doesn't get in before us.
