No doubt, several of the top 10 have been rushed in this season. That is part of selling hope to the members. If you want to look at how to manage a young bloke, you can't go past the way Walker has been nurtured. He wasn't rushed into the seniors. We all know how good his debut was, but he found himself back in the VFL. Has done a lot of time on the interchange bench and played a lot of defensive roles, away from the real heavy contests. Of course he is starting to blossom now.

Unfortunately Pagan was always going to be under pressure to show off Murphy from Round 1 and that of course meant some of the other clubs ie Collingwood with Thomas, Essendon with Ryder and Brisbane with Clark would have felt pressure to show off their hopes for the future. Murphy of course made it worse for himself by being so good, so quickly and therefore ultimately found himself being tagged by an aggressive player in Copeland and we all no the result of that.

In the ideal world these guys would be eased into the game, but there is way too much at stake for clubs like Carlton, to allow that to happen.

The Murphy injury could have happened to anyone, it was just unfortunate the way he fell when he was tackled by Copeland. His debut season was just sensational, and no-one could have expected him to perform the way he did. Had he been playing at VFL level, he would have killed them and he would have debuted early in the season anyway.

As many within the inner sanctum of Carlton and the football world have noted that Murphy was one of those exceptions that was ready to play from day one.

Kennedy took a few months to get into the seniors and when he did was really just given a taste with a few minutes here and there.

One plus for Murphy was having a parent that played the game and the day young Murphy told his dad that AFL is what he wanted to do, no doubt Murphy Snr would have helped in his preparation giving Marc the slight edge over many recruits that did not have access to a past/current player.
