I like the boy. The big fellas with great athleticism, like Bolta and Jackson, are pretty rare.
Not sure if Bolta has the ruck skills, but he can cover ground quickly, spoil and take a grab. Jackson to me looks an elite slick balanced rolls royce. Both have a flag.

Balta is a really good defender as he is quick and strong enough to lockdown most forwards.
As a forward he runs hard and burns off defenders but I can’t feel he’s held back by his lack of game sense. As a defender his player takes him to the ball.
Still kicked four which is a credit to his talent. He just doesn’t yet have the forward nous.

Balta has it all and can play in any position. He is the next big thing in AFL .
Levi Casboult in 2019-20 performed better in all three areas compared to balta. Now I’m not calling Casboult elite. So that’s saying something I think.
And Durdin, Durdin could too.
Theres a number of tall AFL players who could play key forward, back or ruck to a good level.
Balta is one of them but not the only one.
I think he'll continue to flourish and improve as a player and his ceiling could be pretty high.
But just let it happen? No need to go early.

Agree with that. At least this season he has the luxury of having both Lynch and Jack there to take the pressure off and to learn from. Will take some time.

He couldn't ruck
Of course he could.
Jack Silvagni does it and Weitering is a far better player than JS is.

Jack Silvagni does not perform in the ruck though he just gets used there.
Playing in a position and being competitive in said position are 2 very different things.
He's actually acquitted himself quite well in the ruck when he's played there.
Even if he's breaking even in the ruck contest then he's competitive.

He plays maybe 5-10% in the ruck? Maybe 15%
I'd say for the sake of this thread to qualify as being able to ruck you'd need to be able to play an entire game in the middle vs another 1st choice ruck, I'd say Jack and Weiters wouldn't be competitive.

Don't think Balta has the chops or talent to play as a reliable KPF at all in all honesty.

Looks like Luke Jackson may be the only other player in the AFL that can do what Balta can do, in theory.
In practice, however Balta is the only one that has actually proven it on the field, not saying Jackson doesnt have the skill set to be a KPD, but truth is, he has never been asked to.
Balta averaged 7 hit outs a game in 2019, pinch hitting in the ruck as an 18 yr old
Balta played a key role as Premiership KPD in 2020
Balta average 3 goals a game so far this year, and top 10 in CM so far this year
Clearly Baltas ruck opportunities are limited due to Soldo and Nank playing, but he has proven he can do it if they need him to.
If Luke Jackson is worth $1m a yea on the open market, Balta is probably worth more due to his proven track record as a KPD.
