Any ideas on who will be our nominated rookie and will the club leave that decision until the last minute (which is when, BTW?)?

To me, Bray aside, all of the players we picked in the RD could well be ready to play seniors round 1, from an age/physical development point of view - the youngest is Carter at 19 and whilst he's not big he's no stick insect. O'keeffe has built himsekf up, Curnow is very solid and Twomey for a guy listed as 0cm and 0 kg looks pretty solid - BTW do we actually have a reliable height and/or weight for him? Anyway, I figure you don't pick up a near 25yo unless you figure he could step up fairly soon (cf Duigan selection). Then there are the guys who we retained - all of whom are physically pretty well developed (or better) and could not be ruled out as ready for a game this year. So who do we go with? I say don't make the decision now, but at the moment I would be inclined towards Curnow as he is a mature body, we need an inside mid and he has been playing in the highest calibre competition with best effect. That of course assumes his recovery from his injury doesn't hold him back, and he hasn't been able to train properly as yet but will be joining the main group after Christmas. Still, does set him back a bit at least. Next of the Tuohy in my view, but a big preseason from any of the rookies (except maybe Bray) could well be enough to clinch the spot.

LET THE BATTLE BEGIN !

The way everyone is talking up chacia at the club, I think he'll be one of the nominated rookies... I would love to see Tuohy and Dare play but I think they'll have to wait to the mid year promotion before they get a look in... who ever performs better will get the gig...

For me, I would go with Cachia and Curnow as the two nominated before the season and Tuohy in the mid year elevation..

Is it 1 or 2 Rookie elevations at the start of the season considering we have no players on the Veteran's list ???

I would go with Curnow and Tuohy from the start of the year. Cachia is still only 19, so some more time in the Ant's won't hurt him and he can be promoted if/when Mclean goes down ..........

It's nice having Ellard/Garlett/White on the Senior list now, gives more flexability to who we promote as Rookies :D:thumbsu:

The way I understand it is: Because we have no veteran listed players, we can promote two rookies at the start of the year..

Every team can then elevate another rookie after round 11 before round 12...

and then you can elevate a rookie per LTI listed player... and they go back to the rookie list once that player comes back...

Twoney is very mature... I doubt they'd go for such a mature age player if they didn't think he can impact immediately (as development will not be too great)... so it might be a Twoney + Curnow elevation then one of Tuohy, Dare or Cachia during the year

Play em all in the NAB Cup and see who plays the best..

They can all play in the NAB... right?
Yeah... I'm actually really looking forward to the intraclub matches to see which one of the rookies and new players stand up...

Curnow and O'Keeffe, training and NAB form notwithstanding

I thought O'Keefe was placed on the Rookie list as he needs time to get his body upto scratch without the pressure of needing to play games to justify his place on the list .......... Think making him a nominated rookie from the start of the year would be counter productive to that.

Not if he gets his body right over the pre-season. An in-the-know poster on another site suggested Teague and Montgomery were interested in getting him to their new clubs because they knew his body was getting towards its best shape for a while now.

Coryne has a point, if Okeefe was getting his body right and was close to senior selection he would not have been delisted and rookied, so I would say it seems from the reports and posts here that Cachia from the existing crop and Curnow from the newbies.

Having said that, all can play NAB and what if Casboult comes on and kicks huge bags from FF or Dare tears it up etc. So way to early to tell. But what a summer of expectation we are going to have with such a quality list.

Yeah, I also read from an in the know poster on TC a while ago that he was right to go towards the end of the season but they held him back so he could set himself for pre-season.

Curnow and Cachia for mine. Think the club want to give ROK as much time as possible to get his body right, without putting undue pressure on him to play senior footy. Having a look at Cachia at training, the bloke is a tank, and could really play that in and under role in tandem with Brock and Ellard. Suspect AJ might start to get a bit worried about his spot in the starting 22.

Agree.. more midfield grunt needed to support McLean and unleash the
Juddster.

Curnow is so far ahead of Cachia it's not funny. No offence intended to Cachia, but Ed dominated VFL games consistenly in the last 2 years.

The 2nd and mid-year spots are entirely up for grabs.

I wouldnt be jumping to those conclusions based on VFL form. For starters Curnow was not on an AFL list so was able to within the limits of the team plans be able to play his own game whereas Cachia may have specific instructions about the type of game they want him to learn that does not mean go tear it up in the ressies and look great, it means go learn this so you can bring what it is the senior team wants. BIG BIG difference. Thats why often the best VFL players are just that, VFL players despite AFL players getting promoted around them. Not saying he is not ready, just saying dont depend on what you see on a VFL track as your guide.

And i wouldn't be jumping to those conclusions. I'm sure the Hawks are as organised/structured with respect to team roles and expectations as the Bullants. I think even stripping out the potential confounds you mention, Ed's VFL form was better.

There is a reason why the Bullants coach is chosen by or vetted by the Blues. It is because part of his role is to develop our players the way the Blues want them to play even if that does not suit the Bullants. So I think you completely ignore the point I made.

Cachia may (dont know this to be so but every chance) be instructed by the Blues staff to learn a particular role, an instruction that the Bullants follow through on despite it being possible that they could utilize him in other ways that may also better suit the skills Cachia currently possesses if the Blues were not also in the frame. But we might have asked him to forget how he currently plays and go learn this way. And this would not be the case with Curnow, he was not on an AFL list so he could play any way that Box Hill saw fit and as a result Curnow got to play to his current strengths and as a result look miles ahead....... Many times Iocobucco or McCorkel (excuse my spelling) tore it up, are they miles ahead of Cachia? If so, why are they not on our list?

You cannot rely on what you see, you have to know all the facts. We dont. Curnow may well play before Cachia, that is not the point, the point is we dont know what else the club has in mind.
