It really seems like the government and media are fairly heavily invested in calling this a terrorist attack. I'm still not convinced it isn't just a lone crazy with a beef.

They're such ****ing ghouls. Round the clock coverage, baseless speculation that does nothing but incite more terror than the "attack" itself, and then they run headlines like 'DEATH CULT CBD ATTACK', the articles within featuring nothing but misconceptions and lies.

We can't live our lives in fear which is exactly what these extremists want.

It is a religious war they'll try and get into the minds of any group which has different religious beliefs. Fear them into converting or killing them if they don't. Similar to the crusades of Christianity that was done first in 1099 only with modern weaponary by a relatively small group.

I'm not 100% sure either. It is a wierd way to attack for any known terror group usually max causalities are their goal yet we have had nothing of that unless this is some sort of diversion for something bigger which I doubt.

Channel 9 spent half an hour literally repeating the same thing over and over again, while showing the same footage of the people escaping over and over again as well. And my parents lapped it up. And I'm just here with my mouth open wondering why anybody actually bothers with that.

It's frustrating. We have to respect the danger that the hostages are confronted by, but at the same time we can't give it our undivided attention. It beggars belief that the mainstream media are so determined to bring people the scoop that they'll literally give the terrorist/s what they want. Who are the real terrorists?

Another thing that frustrates me when there's any other type of political/social calamity is the prevalence of idiots on social media using these events to win brownie points with all the other disaffected youths.

Reporter on Ch 7 acknowledged that reporting the proceedings continuously was giving the perpetrator/s the publicity they want, but there is an obligation to keep the public informed - dilemma. Imagine the outcry if coverage was limited, or censored (which some of it should be, but anyway). Conspiracy!!!!

I can't see the value of quoting twitter posts on the "news" - stop giving them credibility!! They are typically banal and meaningless. "Thoughts and prayers go to the hostages!" Right.

And then there's the morons going to the area and posting selfies in front of the police tape - duhhhh!

Well my technical definition is "anyone who incites terror". But then that would include the mass media and our government.

My working definition is someone working for a larger organisation who uses death and destruction to incite terror to political or religious ends.

He'd be a domestic terrorist. If he was using weapons to threaten and intimidate for political ends. Fortunately we don't seem to have people that get steamed up enough to use such methods, unlike in USA, eg Wall St and Oklahoma b*mbers, anti-abortionists, KKK and so on.

For those complaining about the repetitive nature of the coverage, it's not the first time and certainly won't be the last. They did the same with 9/11, the same with the Queensland Floods (at least when Brisbane got flooded, nobody remembers we got flooded up here first), same with the miners in Tasmania (remember Channel 9 interrupting our game in Brisbane that afternoon, the one where Browny flattened Granty, to give us the same information except for Richard Carleton having a fatal heart attack).


At least the siege i over now, they stormed the building about a couple of hours ago. Not sure if the Shiek is alive (he was holding up to 15 at one stage hostage) or how injured the 10 hostages that were still in the building are.

The fact that 2 hostages died (we don't know exactly how) is a tragic and disappointing outcome.
