Anyone else think it's a little whack that eSports teams are now filling stadiums, have players with rockstar level celebrity, and are gaining blue chip sponsors that a lot of regular sports teams would only dream of having?

Like owning a good eSports team right now is actually a sound business decision and vastly appreciating asset...

What a world..
Gaming's a pretty big hobby for me but even I find the whole eSports thing baffling.

Wow. People watch other people play video games?
I don't watch eSports, but I watch people play on Twitch fairly often. Mostly because it's good to see how people who are better at some games play it, which can give you tips on how to improve your performance in the game.

I knew it was huge in asia and was slowly getting bigger and bigger in the western world. The fact that a blue chip company like Audi is sponsoring a european video games team means that counter strike is becoming a very viable spectator sport for all types of people and not just nerds.

The intel extreme masters tournament gets 35-40 million unique viewers for the finals.
Crazy.

Remember when you were a kid and you went to a mates place to hang out and he was playing a one player game on Nintendo and you ended up watching him play the whole time? "I'll give you a go once I pass this next part"

Yeah, that sucked.

Nintendo 64 was about my timeline for when I started video games. The thing is now a lot of gamers are parents so kids are getting brought up with it being a viable pasttime and soon it will take over movies as the number 1 entertainment medium.

Those kids who would have mucked around on a nintendo passing a controller to each other are now playing a computer 8 hours a day and travelling the world, earning triple figures to do it.

That legitimately amazes me.

64 was a good console. Probably the best Zelda and Bond releases were on that. I spent many hours playing Goldeneye with mates.

I grew up on the NES. I remember having mates come over halfway through an AFL footy season and not wanting to turn it off. You couldn't save in those days so they'd end up sitting around for an hour and watching you play. I'd be stuffed if I'd let one of them play in the big game between Footscray and Hobart!

Still got my NES actually. Still works well.

Bond, Perfect Dark, and Mario Kart 64 were my jam. Plus the first tony hawk's pro skater....Revolutionary.

Nintendo's last really good console imo.

Steve Smith is reaching Ponting 03, 07 form. He is ugly as **** to watch but he's the best cricketer in the world by a mile ATM. Kohli, AB, Root and Williamson are all batting it out for silver.

That catch today was genuinely unbelievable.

Many a long night playing NES "punch out" at my mates :D

There's something wrong with the world. Don't these people have anything better to do? Seriously. Make them all female, I doubt you'll find a bloke who gives a shit.

That's just mental. $8,400 to change only six traffic lights! Sure, that seems like a worthwhile way to spend tax revenue.

Given there are some other genuine gender equality issues, not to mention things like the homeless crisis in Victoria, this lobby group should be embarrassed with the cause they have chosen to take up.

Hazlewood is the best fast bowler in the world. God.

Where did you get that figure from - I didn't see it in the article. That cost does seem ludicrous. It would only be a cut out too I assume not the actual bulbs.

I don't have a problem per se (i.e. not just having males as the standard person symbol) - but surely you just use women images for new ones or any that already need replacing, which would be cost neutral. Not go around trying to replace half of them now.

I'm a little confused, who are you referring to?

Triple figures? ($100 - $999)??? Que?

It was in an ABC news online article about it.

There aren't many teams more insufferable than the Indian cricket team. That's the only time I passionately support Australian's besides the ashes.

I watch this guy called Smite race older games against fellow guys from Something Awful.
