AFL has ticked off the non-50m call in the Roos Pies game - because the umpire should have called play on?

WTF - the umpire called a mark, and if the players run over the mark like the Pies players did, before the umpire calls play on, that is clearly 50m. Just laughable.

Cats star forward Tyson Stengle could be set to leave the club for the “highest bidder” of rival Melbourne clubs, report Channel 9’s Tom Morris.

The AFL just make the rules up as they go...

For $800,000 per season, I would change clubs without blinking. Your football life is only so long.

Yep, Man of little integrity who allowed sports betting to dominate the AFL.
Its rather ironic, as a sports punter I hate any form of sports betting advertising or promotion when Im watching a game.

He is going to be 26 at the start of the 2025 season, this next contract needs to set him (and family) up for the rest of his life.

Any pay rise is a bonus. His Career highlight will be the 2021 Eagles Premiership over a lame Glenelg. :D

I did warn you people about Laura Kane

If the umpire has called a mark it is not play on until the umpire calls play on. That is the silliest explanation for an umpire howler I've seen, and I've seen a few.

She doesn’t understand the game. You’re getting a lot more of this, so strap yourself in!

Just gaslighting and lies by the AFL here. It was whistled a mark and as soon as it was whistled and no play on was called, it was 50m every day of the week and not 1 but 2 players run inside the protected area.

There is a fair argument that it should have been called play on.

But, it wasn't. It was called a mark, the whistle went. Then two players ran straight over the mark. You have to play to the whistle, even if the umpire has "got it wrong".

It was the clearest 50m penalty I've ever seen.

I'd love to see what the umpire would have done if they had tackled the player.

Two players stepping inside the protected area, just amplifies the stupidity of the decision.

My initial response when I saw this live on the TV, its a 50m penalty straight away. No doubt whatsoever.

I mean FFS there is multiple umpires on the ground, how the f**k did they f**k this up.

Exactly, its never play on, regardless of what the player does until the umpire calls play on.

lol :D

It would have been a likely free kick to the Pies.

Also, the argument that the umpire didn't call "stand" so the Collingwood players didn't know it was a mark doesn't pass muster. My understanding is that the umpire calls "stand" once a player is on the mark. We often see Crows players choosing not to stand the mark and just hovering in the vicinity instead, and the umpire never calls "stand" in those cases.

The umpire couldn't call "stand" because the Collingwood players were a mile over the mark!

If he had called "stand", what were they supposed to do? Just stand there a mile over the mark? Or start moving backwards to the mark and then stand still? That's not how the rule works.

Would be interested in how many of these types of decisions go in the Pies favour late in games...

Has very little experience and that experience is at the worst run club in the AFL

Seems like a plant

Thats a controversial take to have especially in 2024, Im glad you said it. I do agree with you.

The last 4 head to head games with the Crows have been decided by less than a goal, IIRC we have been f**ked over in every single one of those games.

So the tally is already at 4. :drunk:
