The club won’t be standing him down, unless he pulls the pin himself. And probably too late in the week for the AFL to conduct 2 other investigations, get Willie’s side of the story and suspend him. Most likely they’ll negotiate a fine or do a proper job and hand down something next week.

That said, investigations that I’ve been involved with where a claim is made that, “this is the 5th time they’ve done this” tend to go nowhere because nobody reported the first 4 events, so they weren’t investigated and have little bearing.

Was reported last night Geelong made Laura Kane aware of the Geelong incident.

If that's the case, and Laura knew about it before this most recent case, then she should sack herself. They tried to blow it off like it was a one-off incident. Knowing that it wasn't and still pretending that it was is really poor.

Did see that, but the AFL also apparently ‘infuriated’ at not knowing about earlier events, otherwise how could they revisit if they were sitting on all the info in the first place? If this wasn’t a billion dollar organisation blowing millions on a few heavy hitters, it’d be hilarious how poorly they’ve done here.

That Laura Kane and anyone that supported her getting that role need to walk the plank.

She's saying Caro was incorrect and it was never reported.

This is getting to real popcorn-eating levels now.

"SEN journalist Sam Edmund reported on Wednesdy morning that the AFL had been left “blindsided” by the fresh claims against Rioli from past games and would seek more information during the day.

Edmund reported on X the AFL was “furious” upon learning of Rioli’s alleged past threats to oppositon players via the media, rather than receiving formal complaints."

More like AFL furious they have been made to look incompetent again.
It was reported that they knew about the Geelong one, and they knew about the Western Bulldogs one which they did nothing about either, it's the new Essendon one that tipped them over the edge. You can't sweep 3 incidents under the carpet. 3 strikes and you're out.

Weird for Koch to make it an Indigenous issue when most Aboriginal players aren't out there using a carriage service to menace their opponents.
This is a big issue, race becomes a defense when bad actors are called out. this makes it so much harder for the legitimate claims of racism.

Hinkley has a planned press conference at 3.30pm today. Hard to see him fronting the media with all this still going on so I suspect the AFL will make some kind of statement in the next few hours. Either a sanction or nothing to see here

I reckon we'll get a prickly Hinkley who'll flatbat 1-3 questions on it then refuse to answer any more.

If there's one thing Hinkley has never wavered on, it's staunchly backing his players in, for better or worse.

This is a club that will throw concussed players back on to win a game. They'll try and use any and every card in the deck.
I was surrounded by Port Supporters in the Showdown where they brought Aliir Aliir back on after he had his naptime. As far as I could tell their supporters, the ones around me at least, didn't have an issue.

It seems Geelong are now saying they never told the AFL they only contacted Port to tell them what happened and considered the matter dealt with at the time.
Ripped this of the Cats board.

Weren't the Essendon and Geelong ones said on field and not after the game?

If so, not as big an issue. White line fever etc. Opposition player knows they won that battle to resort to that childish insult.

Sending a text/dm hours after the game is an issue though. Especially given how these can easily leak. Bear minimum it is bringing the game into disrepute.

Had Port/AFL fined him for that. This issue is now dead. He did do something that is borderline illegal.
A fine was probably fair though.

Well there are reports this morning the AFL are having another look into it.

Power looking at missing finals, no first rounder to show for it. HUGE mess with the Ken/Carr situation. Loss of their major sponsor on the eve of the season. Butters' management is meeting with Vic clubs.

They and the AFL wanted to sweep this Rioli thing under the carpet. Remember the tarps are never that far away.
🎼 “Happy days are here again…!”😄

I guess it shows a pattern of behavior though, which could have been stopped if Port did anything about it

There's nothing borderline about it. It's "Using a Carriage Service to menace, harass, or offend", and it's covered by Section 474.17 of the Criminal Code Act 1995.

I hope the SA Police are looking into his actions.

Agree, it shows that behaviour.

Had Port and the AFL agreed to a token fine, the public wouldn't have known about the pattern.

It is worse than Ken being an aeroplane and even worse than Watson/Smith sticking fingers up at supporters.

Certainly worse than a teenager throwing a "clapper" at Alir.

Yet all the above copped a sanction.

In trying to "support" Willie, Port and the AFL have hung him out to dry.

Especially Port, which knew about the other incidents.

Announcing a $10k fine on Monday, means it is dealt with. The public/media move on.

Now, anything short of x amount game ban will not be enough.

Letter of the law illegal.
But police action only warranted if part of stalking or genuine threat is seen.

This is a case if an idiot on his phone while in a bad headsace.
