In the last 15 seasons, only 4 times did the 10th side have a losing record - 2013, 2016, 2021 and when we finished 10th in 2023. The 9th side never had a losing record in those 15 years.
A team that finishes in the bottom half gets to play finals & they may have a losing record.

They get to make in near on impossible for the team who finishes 7th. This year, thay is Gold Coast who won 15 games with a percentage of 125 v Sydney who won 12 games with a percentage of 97.

Does it matter what they call it? Round 0, opening round, gather round, wildcard round, who cares the names they come up with.
This issue with round 0 is they create an inequity with the fixture allowing half the teams to start a week earlier.

Personally think it is better to have the top 6 sides with the best chance to win a GF. Th3 prefinals bye gave sides finishing 7-8 an advantage, this removes it.

By having the Wildcard it eliminates 7-10 from getting there but gives enough hope to supporters.

Imagine if we keep Nicks because he "made finals" finishing 10th and losing the first week
dont you put that evil on me GIF

Andrew Dillon needs to give himself an uppercut with these shit decisions
Can anyone sack him or is it one of those roles that you have it until you want or have to step down?

He is ruining the game! He doesn't even speak to the community about what fans players and clubs want it's purely all profit driven.

I hate the 10 team finals series.

It’s a good thing that you have to win 13-15 games to make finals. It means every team in finals is actually a good side. Hence 8th can beat 1st.

Yet another example of the AFL forcing something on us that no one asked for because it might make a few $$$

Does the AFL know what a "wildcard" even is?

A known matchup is not a wildcard

This is Damien Barrett "Sliding Doors" all over again
'Wildcards' don't even make sense in leagues without divisions where the division winners are guaranteed no matter their record.

These are preliminary elimination finals. PRELIMINATION!

Who cares what they’re called. Do you like the idea of a top 6 getting a week off with 7-10 playing elimination finals to earn a place in the September finals series?

I love the idea. Better to have 2 games pre-finals than an entire weekend without footy. Plus 7th and 8th don’t deserve the same benefits of the top 6. A VIC team can finish 8th, get a week’s rest and play home finals all the way to the GF. If it makes it harder for a side like that, then that’s enough reason on its own. 2 extra games is purely a bonus.
Honestly don’t get the hate for it.

I don't really like 10 teams playing finals but I also hate the bye week. And I like footy. So this doesn't really affect me at all.

Can't wait for the 'finals are a different game' in a 10th vs 7th clash.
