The only other result left to this saga, assuming Port comes to their senses, is for everyone to move on.
Not when a players integrity has been called into question & the AFL's kangaroo court found him guilty without any independent evidence.

No surprise Port are fighting it.

Thats fair but that plays no baring on this case
It does a little. Port’s lawyer made a good point - maybe he’s hyper sensitive to criticism of his integrity because he is an umpire who works for a bookie, which might him more likely to mishear.

Butters may have said it but Foot accused him of something with no evidence but his word. When you accuse someone of something, you sure as hell would want something to back it up.

Well this goes some way to explaining the bullying epidemic rampant in schools and workplaces.

Because apparently calling out abusive statements needs technological proof.

That's the lens you need to gaze through here. You can't be dismissive of testimony in this instance and then ever get upset at bullying in schools or workplaces. Because apparently, according to so many out there, 'he said/he said' stuff should result in nil action.

If it was up to me he would be given a choice between Sportsbet and umpiring
Look, I'm against gambling as much as anyone, but, as far as I know, he has a part-time job with them entirely devoted to some horse-racing stuff. He asked the AFL before he started and they ticked it off.

If anyone is to be criticised, it's the AFL.

In those situations, investigations happen and almost always, an admission of guilt. Generally there is an apology and no further issue.

Here, we are talking about two grown adults who have no history and have no reason to intentionally hurt each other. How this cannot be sorted at the absolute lowest level is mind blowing.

Massive difference between bullying, and this!

you are combining two different things. Yes on one hand it is easily argued that his sportsbet job is a conflict of interest. But as a match day official and his decision making in the moment has no links to sportsbet. So therefor you are using that link to declare Foot a liar. +

Again...how is that even linked? There is no gambling on tribunal outcomes, no spot bets on 50m or reports and since he had already told Owens to hurry up and take his kick he wasnt intending to even pay a 50m in that moment.

Plus what incentive would Foot have to go through the whole shitshow and have his integrity questioned. Wouldn't it stand to reason he would hide in the shadows to avoid exposing how corrupt he is if that was the case?
How is it linked? Someone that thinks it's acceptable to be an umpire and employed by Sportsbet at the same time is of questionable integrity.

It's like the opposite of a character reference saying how good of a bloke you are.

What would you do then?

Did the bully work for sportsbet? apparently thats all it takes to determine guilt. The umpire must be lying because they work for sportsbet.

So everyone is a shit person who works for a betting company and they make shit witnesses to crimes because they are going to lie and have no integrity. Got it!

Man if I was a criminal id just target sportsbet employees. Cant take their word for it because they have no integrity!

Well to be fair he probably assumed it was recorded?

Ive seen bullys claim innocense the entire way through. There isnt always the admission of guilt you speak of.

He is in a ground with a thousand cameras and microphones everywhere. Do you truly think he thought like dr evil and said...im going to lie!

If he turned around and admitted he made a mistake, then he'd be getting hammered for paying a game changing 50 for nothing.
Yep. Best not do that, no matter what

It absolutely does. Port pointed out that the link would cause Foot to be particularly sensitive to any perceived impropriety. Eg hearing the word "paid" in a cacophony of noise, with the TV umpire talking in his earpiece, crowd booing, players yelling but that single word is enough to trigger a mountain of pointed abuse in his mind

No, the issue is working at one job that is a clear conflict with a second job. That's the questionable part.

Yeah, I understand that. A lot of times there is a misunderstanding especially when the 'bully' doesn't realise that they upset someone with their actions. When they do, there is an apology which is accepted. If it happens again, clearly intentional bullying.

Here, both parties believe they are 100% correct in a once off event, which is impossible. Both are being stubborn.

?

The financial success of his employer goes up/down depending on the results of the games that he umpires

Can't believe there are people defending this conflict of interest!

How does it apply in this case? Everyone circles around it like it does but no one can define it. The closest argument was he is sensitive to having his integrity questioned. But even Ports defence never claimed its proof he is a lying asshat corrupt as the day is long. They simply said it casts some doubt on how easily he might mishear things.

I'm still hopeful the audio mysteriously appears. I'd find it hilarious if Butters actually said what Foot accused him of.
Butters would not be appealing if he knew the AFL were hiding audio of what Foot had accused him of.

Also, would have got far more than a $1500 fine.

This is the AFL trying to protect the integrity of a known dodgy umpire.
