Now why would the AFL website list VFL matches? Why not SANFL? WAFL? TFL? Doesn't the VFL have their own website for this??

I think the VFL's website has been absorbed into the AFL's website now

Watching the Essendon v Bulldogs trial and Jake Kelly got the switch kick, could have kept running there were free Essendon players up the line but he stopped did the slow it down motion with his hand and then kicked it sideways. I laughed out loud and just said never change.

Classic Kelly, can't wait for Essendon fans to realise how much he holds up play.
Yep, saw that. Proceeded to chuckle.

Zero confidence running on his right side so completely slows down transition.

JUH looks a bit average. Not a lot of intensity

Kane has asked where are the Crows goals coming from, but I'd also ask where are Essendon's coming from? Harry Jones whilst exciting his accuracy is poor and Peter Wright are their two main targets. All their half forwards and small forwards are vanilla role player types, I think they are massively over rated in the media.

This is a team that most Vic experts think are going to finish in the top 8

Are we finally going to start seeing some questions asked about the dodgy deals that the AFL let slide through? It strikes me as a little obvious that whenever a slightly dodgy deal favours a Victorian club, it seems to get through. BUT, should a non-Victorian club benefit, the rules are suddenly very strict.

Compare the trades of B Crouch and Daniher. On more than one occasion, our suggested deals were blocked. Yet the Daniher deal, which was manipulated to ensure a high draft pick for Essendon, was let through. At the time many thought it was a bit stinky. Now it is proven to be the case.

I'm not sure why, but we seem to be always on the end of the rules being a sticking point.

Remember when Geelong didn't have any picks left to trade according to the rules, but the rules were suddenly changed? Or the clearly dodgy Collingwood fire sale that absolutely had nothing to with clear salary cap breeches? Or when we couldn't make a trade with Melbourne last year because the trade included picks already traded? In that instance the rule was to protect against FS pick manipulations, which clearly didn't apply in this case, but NO, rules must be adhered to.

It's sh*t like this we need to grow a set and start speaking out about. If we keep letting it slide, the AFL will keep on hitting us. It won't be until we point out that we aren't going to sit quietly by and let this happen, that we will see some benefits come our way.
We got screwed over twice in the Crouch deals. Yet Brisbane and Essendon pull a worse manipulation and the AFL ticked it off with no issue. It stinks.

I hope that 1 of the clubs that are expressing concerns is us.

We definitely need to go to the AFL

A report emerged on Wednesday that the circumstances of the deal have left a “bad smell” in the noses of rival club officials.

According to reports during the 2020 AFL Trade Period, Daniher’s three-year-deal was worth $2.5 million with performance bonuses attached.

The trade all fell into place sweetly when Daniher’s lofty salary exceeded the $700,000-mark that was reportedly required for the free agency move to trigger a first round draft pick compensation for the Bombers.

I don't think its really unfair if you take the blinkers off.

They have four players who kicked over 25 goals last year who are all returning in 2022. They made the 8 in 2021. They averaged 12.7 goals a year last year (4th in AFL).

We have 1 player on our list who has EVER kicked over 25 goals in a season and he is suspended until round 4. We were bottom 4 in 2021. We averaged 10 goals a game last year.

Do you actually think about what you post?

I mean - The VFL is effectively the reserves comp.
75% of the teams are in that league.

I wasn't comparing our forward line with theirs I was asking where Essendon goals are gonna come from this season as I was watching their trial with the Bulldogs at the time
Stringer is injured, McDonald-Tipungwuti is on personal leave and Hooker has retired that's there top 3 goal scorers.

Essendon's season basically is hinging on Stringer being good, he's their only genuine match winner.

I just don't think they'll be top 8 side.

That's a fair opinion to have.

I don't think it's an unreasonable opinion. Their season could easily go down from last year

Stringer was flying this preseason before a groin strain and at most should miss 1 game. He kicked 41 goals (from 19 games) last year and is still only 27. He is a clear stud and will be the #1 leading forward for them.

Peter Wright - kicked 29 last year and is only 25. He will be the #2 forward and contested marking option allowing Jones to take over that 3rd tall roll vacated by Essendon not wanting to re-sign Hooker.

Tippa - returned to the club last week so would be a possibility to return early in the season.

Their game style is very attacking. They were 5th in league for inside 50's last year and 4th in goals scored despite being a little erratic going inside 50. Another year under Rutten and his gameplan.

Plenty of question marks around the bombers, but I wouldn't be concerned about them kicking enough goals.

Stringer is brittle as f**k, easily susceptible to soft tissue injuries. Tipu is a good forward, but less so when he is the key one in their forward line.

You're right, but it also isn't. Not officially. Nor should it be.
If the VFL becomes the reserves comp, then it illustrates the point that the AFL is nothing more than an expanded VFL.
We need a real 2nds comp without any of the non-AFL affiliated VFL teams.

That fact that we don't, because they don't want to cast aside those VFL teams, says a lot.

Thats what is has always been.

Thats why Carlon's VFL premierships and the records for all the other Victorian teams are recognized as AFL premierships and AFL records.

When the Crows and the Eagles entered and the AFL was formed, it is with this leverage that all records etc should have been reset to zero.

Put port in charge of doing it 😆
Well they managed to kill off the Magpies incredibly effectively, all while their unwashed masses looked on and applauded.

It reminds me of the only great bit of writing from the Star Wars prequels
"So this is how liberty dies...with thunderous applause"

Don't reckon the majority of the mass down there was clapping.

You heard any complaints? Like any? At all?
Not one Port supporter mate has mentioned a single issue with it. They believe that they have become 'one club' which was exactly what they tried to do previously. Only this time, they have done it by quietly killing off the Magpies and attempting to take all that heritage into the AFL as their own.
