And how stiff is Mitch Robinson that being the case

Have no idea what Robinson was meant to do, he was stopped, Duursma went in to pick up the ball head down. Have no issue with it being a free for high contact, just not sure what other option was available to Robinson unless they believe he can shape shift

Absolutely, Robinsons was far less bad, and he certainly had an argument that he braced for contact and Duursma dived into him. That decision makes no sense either
The only one they got right was Sloane, baffling he got suspended in the first place
Brisbane should have appealed it. Likely to have got off.

Also, thinking about age...

Born March 1994. So when he signed the first 3 year deal in late 2020 he was about to turn 27 (in March 2021) and the deal would have taken him through to the end of 2023, when he would be approaching 30. He is currently (just turned) 28. The proposed extension takes him through to end of 2025, when he's approaching 32 (turns 32 in March 2026).

So - and I'm not trying to make a case either way here, just chewing the fat...

- Wouldn't a nearly 27 year old, being asked to change clubs, want at least 4 years? Maybe not, if the price for the 3 years is fat enough. But without looking up the records, (only) 3 year deals for a FA, even a 27 year old, would not be common?

- Would a 28 year old want a contract extension that takes him through to the age of nearly 32? Absolutely, even if the $ are perhaps reduced. Bird in the hand, and all that.

- But why would a club offer a 28 year old a 2 year extension when they've got him sewn up for the next 2 years anyway? It's not like there's any danger another club will poach him.

Not trying to make a case either way, and it's not a strong case anyway, but it's kind of odd.

Oh, it stinks. It stinks bad.

Will the AFL do anything? No. Why? Because it involves one of their big Clubs in Essendon.

If it was Brisbane, and Brisbane alone, then there is possibility they would do something, but if it intimates that one of the big Vic clubs tried to manipulate the draft etc then I doubt anything will come of it.

What is the most irritating is that the AFL seemed to step in an block any potential deal between St Kilda and Adelaide re Brad Crouch, due to 'optics'

I meant contracts that are signed and then the club tears that up and pays them more within those same years.
Before Kane Cornes was a clickbait troll and fairly decent on 5AA he once spoke about contracts.

He said they increase the player salary all the time. The base is the amount initially signed, but quite common for a renegotiation mid contract.

IMO the AFL needs to scrap their stupid classification system and produce a list of actions that will receive suspensions

Eg.

Gut punch - 1 week
Deliberate hit to the head - 4 weeks
Jumping into someone's head - 1 week
Bumping someone in the head - 1 week
Sling tackle - 3 weeks

And so on. Each would have examples of past instances of these actions. Make it very clear cut and go from there. No room for interpretation: if you bump someone in the head, you're gone for a week, no "oh well was it careless or intentional"

This would be excellent. However it makes it much harder to manipulate if you need a certain star player to avoid a suspension.

There's only been ONE long-term contract since then, and that contract already made the player (Franklin) the highest paid in the AFL.

There are literally no other data points for comparison.
Ok that’s my point, you originally stated just because a player signs for an amount doesn’t mean they won’t get more and then pointed to the lynch example.
Which we’ve now established is about the only know case ever!

The AFL interfered a few times when it came to Brad Crouch. They had their predetermined outcome set and blocked every attempt we made at moving around it.

God forbid we benefit once from their own sh1t rules and processes.

Such a corrupt organisation, yet we all keep coming back for more.

Could be worse, could support a lowly EPL Club and have absolutely zero chance of seeing any success in our lifetime.

Ash Barty just announced her retirement at 25, World number 1 and Current Australian Open and Wimbledon champion.

I'm in shock and a little sad but my god do I respect it.
She is one Aussie sports star we can take great pride in.
Great girl.

She's won like $30 mill so I would think so.... Speculation she'll turn her focus to golf but I think she's totally done with sport and being an athlete.
Don't blame her.

I often think it makes sense to stop playing professional high dollar value sports early. Then do what you want for the rest of your life.

Well, we are talking about a sample size of 2 - Franklin & Lynch - as the only 9/10 year contracts in living memory. Based on those numbers, McDonald would have a 50% chance of having his contract upgraded. Given that he won't be the highest paid player in the competition, being paid $1M+ in his declining years, it's arguably 100%.

Unless your club gets bought by a billionaire

The AFL cooks up the outcomes it wants, usually to benefit clubs in Victoria and for some reason to screw us whenever possible.

I’ve stopped caring. I used to watch every match every round, plus a re-watch of every Crows game. On the weekend I didn’t watch a single game.

It’s not a real league it’s a set up - Stop giving them your money.
