Ash Barty just announced her retirement at 25, World number 1 and Current Australian Open and Wimbledon champion.

I'm in shock and a little sad but my god do I respect it.
What are the odds on her making a comeback in a couple of years.... as she still young.

She may be thinking of little Barty’s
Good for her.

She took a beak before when she took uo cricket... so I reckon there is a good chance she may do the same in a few years... perhaps after some kids.

She wants to stay in Australia so it'd only be domestic sport. I think she might already be Prego so I'm sure raising a family and being around for it is super important to her.

She can just play the Australian Open... ;)

Or she may take up playing for her Tigers.

Don't blame her.

I often think it makes sense to stop playing professional high dollar value sports early. Then do what you want for the rest of your life.

$30 mill?… and the rest. $30 million is just match earnings… gotta add sponsorship and endorsements coin on top of that.. so at least double or even triple it!…

Think the saddest thing is, I am not alone in thinking she could have won a grand slam. Going to be hard to explain to youngsters in 15 years how good she was and be believed..."she could be about to play a Grand slam and she'd go and watch her team play knocking back pints"

Her legend will be great in 30 years

So, just going with the Barty retirement in her prime theme, what is the closest AFL equivalent you can think of?
I'll start the ball rolling and name Alex Rance.
Over to you...

I think it might be more about opening X amount of sections rather than a sell out.

I would expect 50-60k

So yes more might be available later
I will be amazed if they crack 45k.

Minor round Crows games rarely break 40k at the G, even against Rich, Cwd, Carlton.

Don’t think it was a retirement, but I remember Leon Davis made All Australian and then got delisted with no other club picking him up.

Tadhg Kennelly probably, though he did return later.

Its been a few years since we have been able to have "proper" crowds at games in Victoria, the fact that Pies won R1 and Crows narrowly lost, I expect around 40k to be at the game.

Hey, we can't be on here 24 hours a day... :$
You don't need more than 7 hours of sleep, so I expect to see you on here at least 17 hours a day. So that's um... 7 * 17 = 119 hours please.
