We really need to do something about the umpiring standard. It is incredibly poor. Is it just that there is such a small pool to choose from?
Part of the issue is in the lower ranks (state leagues) they go for athletes before people with a football background, and therefore have no feel for the game.

Umpiring isn't an easy job, I have no doubt about that, but the standard has been going backwards for years now, mainly because they are too involved in the game. It all started when they decided to mic them up IMO.

And when the numbers were put on their backs so we could identify them.

Umpires should be like kids - seen but not heard.

I have a mate who umpires at ammo/country level.

He reckons AFL umpires position themselves poorly to make decisions. Says the positioning seems to be more about looking good for TV rather than doing the actual job.

On TV we see the angles they don't, but should see.

I agree it is a tough gig. That's why I think having an extra and taking some of the fitness out of it. Then they can employ people that understand the game.

It is scary how much Port of 2022 is making the same errors of the Crows of the past.

1. Severe overrating of the list
2. A snake oil salesman for a coach (at least we had the sense to get rid of Sando)
3. Another snake oil salesman for a President
4. Off field promotions from within the organisation
5. Off field staff leaving and not being replaced

I've been saying that the cliff has been coming for them for some time and the signs have been there. I thought it would come last year, but they were blessed with a soft draw and limited impact with injuries, but this year, they've had a couple of injuries to key personnel, a tougher fixture and their aging stars are looking old.

Oh, and suck shit Chris Davies, couldn't happen to a nicer bloke. Where's the professional jealousy now??

Yeah I don't think Port can come back from this.

Hopefully they think Ken's only problem is lack of support rather than sacking him.
