AFL 2022: Port Adelaide interested in Geelong small forward Francis Evans, closing in on Junior Rioli

A Geelong forward has emerged as a surprise trade target for Port Adelaide as the Power look to boost their prospects of returning to finals in 2023.

A Geelong small forward plucked from relative obscurity three years ago is on Port Adelaide’s radar, as the Power awaits decisions from Josh Dunkley and Junior Rioli.

Evans, who played division two amateur football for Brunswick for much of his draft season in 2019 before two games at Calder Cannons, featured five times at AFL level this campaign, taking his career tally to seven.

The 21-year-old goalsneak booted 20 majors and averaged 17.7 disposals in the VFL.

Port supporters after hearing him interviewed last night and realising that Port are offering him a massive deal

Port supporters do often like to act like they pay players unders and it's the lure of playing for Port that gets them over the line. Might be a bit of a wake-up call that you gotta pay a player who has options, no matter what your club is like (or you pay them in other ways like Geelong)

"the lure of playing for Port" I actually laughed out loud.

Rankine is worth double the salary of Rioli at least, if they are paying him close to the same they must be very desperate to help Kenny.

Desperate is exactly what Port are. Koch has held onto Kenny for 10 unproductive years and needs a win to finally justify it all

That Port Power are offering Rioli a 4 year contract with no conditions is just madness but totally in line with what one would expect with Ken and Kochie’s desperation. It is just marvellous 😂 I look forward to it spectacularly failing. He (Rioli) will probably be good for a year, two tops. Four… no way.

I pay $35 but that’s because we have three people accessing it.
If people know a relative with Foxtel they could pay them for one of their logins, I believe you get 5 per account.

As long as he doesn't become another Showdown specialist...

Yeah you do, but it's annoying because you get 5 registered devices per account including mobile phones.

There is also a limitation that you can only have 2 streams going at the same time.

You've been around long enough to know that he's not leaving West Coast for money, he's only leaving because because he wants to play for the mighty Port Powers 🤣🤣🤣

It's pretty cool technology and makes me wonder what they could do in the AFL. I still think the AFL would find a way to code in Vic bias though.
Meanwhile, at AFL House:

There is a LOT more money in the world game, which allows the investment into this tech.

Just not enough money in AFL to justify it , I assume.

I'm surprised Port think Josh Carr could be a Senior Assistant and potentially take over from Ken. His record isn't that great. He was Port and as good as Freo look they are not there yet.

Even while coaching North they finished 5th. It was a great finals series where everything went right to win the flag but its not like he built a super team.

Surely how much they were paying Motlop should've been the wake up call

I'm 95% sure that Ross Lyon is gaslighting the AFL community.

I suspect he is very comfortable in his commentary roles and has no interest in coaching again. BUT, he needs to stay relevant and loves the attention, so every job that comes up, he leaks his own name as being interested. He waits a little while for the media to pick it up and run with it, then he announces that he isn't interested or has withdrawn his interest.
Funnily enough there was never interest in the first place.

In the AFL it should be a lot easier. All you need is a couple of laser galvos making a scanning beam and then mounted in the goal posts. You need a couple of units basically marking the goal line and a couple marking the inner edge of the posts. The beams will be visible even on the cruddy cameras and that would resolve 99% of the issues, including contentious above the goal post ones. Prolly cost about $1600 bucks per oval you put them in.
