Thought Heard might have been a chance, Lowe doesnt have the weapons and Rokahr has a bit of the Tom Lewis' about him.Cause hes injured. Not because of the mid season draft. I am glad we didn't lose three of our best. Imagine losing Lowe, F Heard and Rokahr.
So they have no depth, thanks for confirmingWell the Eagles lost 3 of their very best players that AFL clubs deemed AFL quality possibly including 2 Key Position Defenders, how many did Norwood lose?

Traditionally "weaker" clubs like South and West have had quite a number of players drafted in the last decade or 2, it seems very strange you'd want to vote against a system that gives you a monetary benefit from that.Greater compensation to clubs for players drafted is an interesting one.
It used to be that if an SANFL club had a player drafted they would be paid directly. The more players a club had drafted, the more money they received.
The SANFL clubs themselves voted against this system. The weaker clubs argued that it rewarded the strong clubs too much and the gap widened. All clubs said that it was an unpredictable revenue stream so hard to budget.
So it was scrapped.
Now the SANFL clubs just get a flat fee across the board, no matter how good or crap they are. Easier for budgeting I'm sure but if WWT is decimated by losing three players at once... the SANFL club's compensation system is to go **** yourselves. This is the system the SANFL clubs wanted.
When this was changed there was no early season draft and no mid season draft so increased compensation is now warrantedGreater compensation to clubs for players drafted is an interesting one.

Theyd probably get paid more at the Bay anywayCan’t remember which sports show was discussing it, they said sucks to lose players but it also helps attract them, as you can point to development to get them picked up by the AFL.
Pity didn’t work for McBean and Hosie
That makes no difference? When this was changed there was no early season draft and no mid season draft so increased compensation is now warranted
My point is that as there’s more disruption and opportunity to lose players there needs to be better compensation. When the clubs agreed to a fixed return as compared to a fee per player drafted they weren’t losing players on the eve of the season and halfway through the season. That makes no difference?
It's still spread equally so just bad luck WWT, you get the same slice as Sturt who had zero players taken
Then that winds back to the original pointMy point is that as there’s more disruption and opportunity to lose players there needs to be better compensation. How would having more AFL entry points help SANFL clubs, and in turn community clubs ??Then that winds back to the original point
The existence of this draft is known.
So, if losing players midway through a season is a massive issue, don't take players with AFL intentions. In fact you can ask them if they are going to nominate for the draft before signing.
Problem solved. No players lost.
Or if you want the talent that means you are prepared to take the risk that they get picked up.
The clubs can't have it both ways. A number of players are only playing SANFL in the first place because it is a pathway to AFL.
There should be more AFL entry points, not fewer. AFL clubs should be able to bring up mature age players at any time like the Major League / Minor League baseball. That would actually help the SANFL clubs more and keep more players overall chasing their AFL dream by playing in their competition for longer.
Because anyone with AFL aspirations is only a few injuries at an AFL club away from an AFL call up.How would having more AFL entry points help SANFL clubs, and in turn community clubs ??
Where do you think the SANFL clubs get their replacements from ??Because anyone with AFL aspirations is only a few injuries at an AFL club away from an AFL call up.
They're not waiting for one of two annual windows, or relying on a permanent list spot to be open, or for a 6-18 month contract.
Community clubs?
Again, this idea is so f***ing stupid yet you keep doubling down on it. You’re effectively suggesting SANFL clubs should just not play or develop their juniors or players that have come through their junior programs because “they have AFL goals”. What you’re suggesting would propose that Sturt don’t have a player like Tom Lewis at all because he has a dream to play at the highest standard possible and IF they do keep that player the club doesn’t deserve appropriate compensation for losing that player. Then that winds back to the original point

I was about to post that contract matters. What you put in front of the player is what you expect. If either party has issues don't sign itThen that winds back to the original point

You’re effectively advocating for SANFL clubs not to keep developing and creating a pathway for these types of players. It’s totally counter intuitive.
