Teams are finally exposing him rather than playing to his strengths.

Rance is very good in a one-on-one wrestle, defending the lead when tracking an opponent and reads the ball in flight early - which means he can be very effective when the game is on his terms.

However he is actually quite poor when it comes to zonal marking; he has a habit of going too deep in defence and not then being able to cover corridor leads inside the 50. If his team-mates in defence go to sleep or get dragged wide (think Preliminary Final vs Collingwood) he can get caught out repeatedly without their help.
