Also how would a final 10 look like?

Week 1 - 1, 2 have a bye and the remainder play as they would in a normal 1st week?

Interim final?
3v6
4v5
Elimination final?
7v10
8v9

And then week 2 goes back to normal
Qualifying final
1v (winner 4/5)
2v(winner 3/6)
Elimination final 2
(Loser 3/6) v (winner 8/9)
(Loser 4v5) v (winner 7/10)

So in the past 24 hours we’ve had “Pies refused to travel for Opening Round so we gave them an extra home game and bye instead.”

Then “everyone who feels like playing finals can have a turn I suppose” with the non-wildcard wildcard nobody asked for.

And last but not least “Richmond cry about being made to play at Marvel, so instead we’ll pay them to play in Tassie for a year or two, but they retain all their MCG games”.

Dogshit league, anyone who cares about any of this outside how the Eagles are doing deserves what they get.

Wildcard games to be played at a pre-determined rotating venue every year?

Great idea; we'll put all the cities in a hat and choose it randomly. And by all the cities I mean Melbourne and Geelong.

I’m sorry but I just don’t see how this move benefits Geelong and Collingwood. Very disappointed in the AFL.
Thought they could introduce something that was beneficial for the 2 top placed Victorian teams. Not whomever finished 9th & 10th.
I want to hear what McRae and CScott have to say about this.

It's a final 8 plus 2.

5 vs winner of match 1
6 vs winner of match 2.

Will it be 5 vs 8th/9th & 6th vs 7th/10?

Not sure where to post this or if it's been discussed already. Anyone know anything about it?
The only disappointing one of those would be Pearce leaving.

I've come to peace with never seeing Yeo again
Duggen - meh,
Sportstar - cool but I don't get over excited about back of house appointments
Benny back, again 18yo me would thick this is sick, and I love Benny's seemingly clean recovery, but he did almost destroy the club from the inside and he IS a convicted DV perpetrator. Probably not the person that should ever be allowed back in and employed in an official manner.

They’ve confirmed it gets reseeded which at least is the smarter option. Higher ranking team becomes the defacto seventh placed team.

So if 8th wins and 10th wins, the next round of finals would be 5th vs 10th and 6th vs 8th.

Could just as likely be Cripps calling it a day!

Given the debate in the draft thread around moving Cripps to the rookie list to create an extra spot for the draft, Yeo retiring a couple of days after finalising lists spots for the draft would be quite something

The Yeo retirement might be the 6th list spot we are all wishing for come draft night. Might be the club has had advanced notice.

Surely we can hold daisy.

Duggan 👍

Cous as a coach???
You'd think that it would be premature for Daisy to head off now. She's made significant progress with the AFLW team, but hasn't enjoyed the fruits of her hard work just yet. Unfinished business.

I don't totally mind adding the wild card round as an increase in AFL clubs (with Tassie making 19 soon) meant that playoffs were always going to expand.

My main beef is the massive difference in what it means to finish 7th vs 6th - positions which are often just separated by percentage on the ladder. If you finish 7th you have to play an extra game and then if you're lucky enough to win that, you have to play a road game against a well-rested team that finished one spot ahead of you on the ladder. Seems like the main thing this wildcard round does is screws over the 7th and 8th place finishers.

This seems a bit of a strange complaint to me tbh. Could really say the exact same thing for 8th and 9th under the current years system. Might be separated by % but 9th misses out entirely.

If you finish 7th you dont really get the right to complain imo

That's it for me for the year, lads. I'm only coming back to post AFLW Eagles stuff but as far as the mens side goes I'm scorched.

Catch everyone come finals time

My heart bleeds.
