My preference for the premiership in order would be

Bulldogs - Been so long since they even made a GF
GWS - Dont really want them to win due to the concessions but they haven't won anything yet so will be a couple of years before they can catch our total so it puts them above the other 2.
Swans - Been up for a while. Only 1 AFL flag behind us
Cats - Same as Swans but won more.

There's a white paper I read a couple of years ago, outlining the battle lines being drawn in Western Sydney. Very interesting read, I'll try and find it for you, but it went along the lines of Western Sydney being the mother of all battles for code supremacy between AFL, NRL and FFA.
I understand what you are saying, but based on the debacle that was the original AFL, the VFL in disguise, I can accept GWS more easily than other teams.
The AFL compromised the competition to introduce Gold Coast and GWS which has completely bastardised a decade of football

If the Bulldogs get through it will be in spite of what the league has done and I'll applaud them for succession against the odds. The only bit of luck they've had is getting Wallis and liberatore as father sons as latish picks in the same draft plus lachie hunter before the bidding system came in. But other clubs including us have got lucky with father sons

Outside of that they've received no draft assistance and they've used their picks exceedingly well

And they haven't even had the good fortune of a good injury run

I won't begrudge Geelong if they win either given they've maintained a strong list without assistance - getting danger was a bit of good fortune sure but as it turns out they still had to trade for him so he wasn't free even if they did pay unders

Swans through COLA and the academy have benefitted greatly by the afl wanting football in Sydney to succeed above all else

GWS don't start me

The AFL are two wins away from their wet dream of an all Sydney GF which will be the ultimate victory for the corporatisation if our game. It'll be a sad day if it happens

Thanks for that Eddie.

Crows goneski.

Dont fancy swans chances on the MCG. They will need to play better than a 1 quarter burst.
Maybe they were preserving themselves considering they have a 6 day
In order for me: GWS, Sydney, Geelong, Bulldogs.

I dont mind GWS - they're pretty fun to watch at the best of times.
I'm pretty ambivalent toward Sydney.
I dislike Geelong and loathe the Bulldogs.
just curious, why do you loathe the Bulldogs. Is it because they're a Melbourne team?

Had a few friends who supported them. They were the most stubbornly one-eyed supporters of any club that I've met. Couldn't go a day without hearing Chris Grant being 'better' than Wayne Carey or Croft being compared to Jakovich or West to Buckley/Voss etc. I'd also listen to regular comments of how Hahn was the best contested mark in the league, after Lake. Gia was the best small forward and Gilbee the best kick. You get the idea.

Throw in their scummy players of the 90s who scratched and gouged players.

On top of that, I always liked Akermanis and couldn't stand the way his teammates seemed to be such embittered losers who were averse to success.

Luke Darcy.

Now that the dogs don't have campaigners like darcy, libba snr and southern playing for them i quite like them. Almost as much as i like shep's sister but not quite.

Libba jnr has helped to reignite the hatred pretty quickly, along with Stringer, Dalhaus & McLean.

I was pretty young during the 90s, so my hatred has continued through each generation of Bulldogs.

I'd find it a lot easier to like the Bulldogs if the AFL/VFL media didn't react to seeing them play like they're watching Backdoor Sluts 9.

Did the series of backdoor sluts reach a high point in it's ninth iteration? If so what was the key point in making it better than the eight that came before or any that came afterwards?

Fair enough:) must admit the time when Gardener was first drafted and the Bulldogs tried the bully boy tactics on him left a lot to be desired and also can't remember the circumstances completely but one of their players almost strangled Summa to death when playing them at Subi or was it the WACA? Summa's lucky he is still alive!! However in latter times they have almost become likeable. Think those incidents were when Terry Wallace became their coach so he may have been the bad influence?!!

Yeah and which bit was incorrect
The bit where the dogs "did it themselves". Excluding the expansion clubs they have consistently been at the top of the handout list over that entire period. Without help from league HQ they'd be so broke they couldn't afford balls to train with.

Also, everyone seems to be missing that this is the dogs fourth prelim in the last nine years - only two behind the Hawks and Cats, and one behind the Swans - all the accepted power teams of the era. They're less of a "battler does good" story than people like to think...
