You know the story behind it don't you?

They have changed from an analogue siren to a digital one and they are experimenting to get it as close to the sound of the analogue one. It sounds like shit at the ground - unless you are there when it sounds to signal the end of the game and the start of the Richmond meltdown, that's fun.
I did not know that, actually. Not up at all with all the technicalities of it.

I just know I don't like the sound of it.

I looked it up when you complained about it earlier in the year ;)

MCG changes its tune Listen to the change in the sound of the MCG siren this season as the ground moves into the digital era

Dane Swan and Collingwood fans celebrate at the final siren on Anzac Day, a sound quite different from the one heard last year

THE iconic sound of the MCG siren has changed.

If you've been to a game at the home of footy in the past few weeks and thought you were hearing something different, you were.

The MCG is well aware of the difference in the siren's sound to last year, and is trying to fix it.

"The siren at the MCG does sound a little different to that which people have been accustomed," MCC spokesman Shane Brown confirmed to AFL.com.au.

"The reason is that we have had to move from an analog system to a digital one.

"The digital siren does have a different sound, although we're investigating ways to replicate the old sound in the new format."

The change follows a huge upgrade to the ground's two video scoreboards in the off-season, which cost the venue $5million.

The screens are 25.24 metres wide and 13.17 metres high making them approximately 332 square metres in total.

I'm sure some bush footy leagues rack up some ridiculous numbers

That's in the sydney magoos? anyone know what the standard is like? i'm thinking below EDFL?
NEAFL has a big gap. Sydney are far and away the best side, then you have NT, Southport, Aspley, Redland, Sydney Uni, Ainsley and UWS all good sides around the same mark, then Brisbane (injuries), Sydney Hills, Queanbeyan, Belconnen, Eastlake and GC being, well, crap. I reckon that Sydney, NT, Southport, Ainsley and UWS would all be competitive in the VFL

Going back to the siren topic: It was actually fine at the start of the year, but they've gone and stuffed around with it and made it sound like the siren at Kardinia Park now. So we now have a siren at a venue that can hold 100,000+ people sounding like one at a glorified suburban venue.

Bingo. It was fine at the start of the season. Why wasn't it just left as it was then?

The one at Windy Hill sounds the same too.

I can't work that out.

Is that:

Point 1) RIP Tom Hafey
Point 2) "Brisbane wore the Bears jumper last week, and the Lions jumper this week"
Point 3) "Go North"

? If so, what was the outrage over?

I think the serious message RIP Tom Hafey, and the humor on one sentence didn't mix well.

Though it wasn't the intention 'RIP Tom Hafey .................No one cares"

I heard they now stream the siren sound via Spotify. Keeping up with the times and all....

Might explain the Jenkins goal debacle. You can never get any good internet at the grounds.

Finally COLA is gone for the Swans:

I like the plan really.. pay rental assistance (capped rate) directly to players that are on the 'low' end of the spectrum. I have no problem with this concept and I think is a very thoughtful plan.

Far better than some random 1M pot of money to splash on getting star key forwards!!

Only disappointing aspect is that they are going to give them another two years of cheating before phasing it out.. but at least an end to the inequity is coming..

I like that system and seems fair, no complaints from me on that one.

As Doss said though, interesting to see how they deal with GWS and GCS.

Gone for the Swans, yes.

I'd like to see how they handle it with GC and GWS.

I'm ok with them having some 'retention' padding for a few years to establish themselves.. no point needed them to constantly have the hand out for years on end.. if a couple of Prelims or even flags can help them get 30K members and stand on their own.. then so be it.

I would like to see the 'retention allowance' expanded though.. have set criteria that is applicable to all clubs.. so if you are in the bottom 3 for over 5 years.. then you get 3 years of retention allowance up to 7.5% over the Salary Cap.. but you lose it once you make finals.. or something like that..

Anything to ensure 18 healthy clubs every year that have a chance of competing, retaining talent and rotating success..

The saddest thing about the past ten years has been the fact that Hawks, Geelong and Sydney have basically raffled the top 4...

And heeere come the long term contracts.
