It was a bonehead comment.. but I sort of see where he is coming from.. I think..

Port did recycle some of its list and changed coach. However they still have 25+ players from that horror period on the list and at the time no one rated anyone. I think Port was widely condemned as having 'the worst list in the AFL'.. hence why no one predicted improvement. Guys like Schultz, Westhoff, Lobbe were all considered as 'not right moving forward'.. Boak was seen as underachieving (but still their best by a long way).. Cassissi and Cornes were 'past it'... Broadbent, Ebert, Gray were all list cloggers that hadn't reached potential...

So yeah.. it has changed but there has also been a massive improvement out of 10-12 guys that were there previously..

I liked it when a Hawthorn player ducked his head into a Port player's legs and there was no free. One of the commentators, Richo I think, said, "They're not paying those this year and rightly so". I just quietly chuckled to myself.

*What Port have done on, and off, the field is nothing short of spectacular.. this was a team that was one step away from folding imho.. and two years later they are selling out the AO, beating the reigning Premiers and sitting on top the ladder.. impressive all round. Hats off to them.

I may have been flamed for this in another thread but you cannot under estimate the popularity of David Koch and the confidence he has brought to Alberton. Something that Paul Little/David Evans/Ray Gunston have failed to do so throughout our whole 'saga' situation.

He has given the fans and the members at Port confidence they are going forwards.

Attendance = members = money = development = wins (wash, rinse & repeat)

Kinda very dramatically different situations, but sure.

I know they are different situations but have kinda hoped for a big Essendon personality in the public eye to stem the bleeding we've copped from the media in the last 18 months or so

it's all well and good to say that but actually coming up with a viable option is another thing entirely.

Jennifer Kite was the first one i thought of in terms of a high profile supporter, and she's not a viable selection

Steve Irwin? Oh wait.

It pains me to say it but the Janoskians are big Essendon supporters...

Being serious now Andrew Bogut would go alright.

I really wonder whether Hardwick gets it.

Unfortunately for him Riewoldt proved to him just how wrong he is.

Some coaches find it hard to play a guy in their preferred/correct position.. will be interesting to see where JRoo lines up against us.

Ablett just copped a fairly similar hit to Hurley. Cooney was reported.

Had to laugh when I saw that. Much less force than the Hurley incident but free kick and into the book Cooney goes.
Still, as long as the AFL looks after the stars the peasants should be happy with their lot...

I love watching Port Adelaide and Gold Coast play. They just take the game on and it's a thrill - it's exciting to watch.

was anyone expecting any different.

What they've been given is absolutely unprecedented for a new franchise in any draft based code in the world. And it's been exceeded by GWS
