They can’t get to the finals and just “flick the switch”.
If they lose tonight I’ll pretty much write them off for the top 4.

They just aren’t playing with the hunger they had last year. And it’s shows with them falling from 1st (or there abouts) last year to 18th in pressure this year.
They look tired.

I'm not going to write them off because we all know how important it is to get it right at the right time of the year, so there's still time for them... But maybe they don't have quite that same level of hunger this year that they did last year when they broke their premiership drought

Even as the reigning premiers, you just play at the level you were year before, and you need to find that next level and just not sure if Melbourne has done that this year or if there's a bit of complacency that's crept into their game

Even thinking back to their clash with us, Jackson had missed the week before with injury & Gawn had missed a month with a syndesmosis injury, and while he had the most hitouts that night, he was far from his best & didn't have the impact we've come accustomed to over recent seasons. Not sure if they were rushed back in when not quite right out of desperation to ease what looked a bit of a slump from Melbourne, or complacency with the idea that "they'll be right" even if they weren't

Fair assessment.
I think a convincing win tonight against Freo may help to steer the ship in the right direction for them.

Correct about not writing Melbourne off, they remain one of the top contenders.

Freo have been poor for a while now and should never have been considered a flag threat.

Melbourne would be scary if they did what Richmond did around 2018 and hunted one of the best key forwards in the comp. That arguably secured Richmond two more flags. They didn't though and thus there is a deficiency there.

Were a bit stiff with that play on call late in the quarter, and Melbourne goal on the rebound. Potential 12 point turnaround right there.
