Anybody else feel like the new Tassie team's prospective name "The Devils" is a bit on the nose?

Apparently when the basketball side looked name ..the Devils was copywritted by the afl... I think its a bit unimaginative but what is better?

Name the after tiger? The Tassy Thylacine's. .. Or The Tassy Currunwongs. ... another black bird. The Rosella's? Sound a bit too much like sauce. The Tassy Apples? The Tassy Yachts . The Tassy Lobsters. ....?

I agree the devil is very much like Melbourne Demons/Devils If it was collingwood .. I cant see them letting it happen.

The only other thing Tassie is known for are their apples…I can’t see anyone name for them personally

Their form line remains better than the rest. Brisbane at the Gabba they struggled with but so will most. Go through their fixture, it looks pretty good for top 2 Vs Melbourne who are unreliable and Brisbane who can't travel. So that means MCG finals for a big MCG team.

Lucky for the rest of the chums there are 24 rounds and not 7. Though St Kilda are currently on top not Collingwood.

My rankings are based on who I expect to be there at the pointy end from the games I've watched so far, are subject to change and were not meant to offend anybody. I apologise if I've failed on some of my intentions with the post.

Your original comment was Collingwood are well in front currently. That's what I responded to.

Yeah I feel like it's a good chance to do something inventive. Like the Power, Dockers, Suns or Giants. It doesn't need to be something intrinsically from Tassie - worlds their oyster!

If you wanted me to just post the ladder instead then I could have. It being an opinion forum, people can believe that the current order of the ladder does not automatically guarantee who is playing better or doing better. Not sure why there's such a big issue. To my eyes Collingwood are currently playing better and more consistent footy than the next group of 3 so far - Melbourne, Brisbane and Geelong. Fine if you think those sides or others are so far having a stronger season.

Um you're the one who said something about how are they currently. Then you changed it to future.

No need to get snarky about it.

Naming Tassie after things its famous for:

Tasmania Mountains/Greens: Then we could have GWS as their rivals with the Mountains vs the Giants, it would be like Cleganebowl in GOT. Or because of all the forestry we could have the Green men vs the Orange men.

Tasmania Convicts: Out of 11 UNESCO World Heritage Listed convict sites in Australia, five are in Tassie. Or if we need another avian mascot the Tassie Jailbirds.

Or, hear me out, we could name them after an animal and a famous location in Tasmania and relocate a team at the same time to avoid thinning out the talent pool.

So we obviously have the Tasmanian Tiger, an animal Tasmania is well known for.
And they have a famous bridge in a village called Richmond.
Why not just relocate the Richmond Tigers to Tasmania. Then you just have to change the black in their colours to green and you are sorted. Then they instantly have a supporter base in Melbourne.
And Jack, as a famous Tasmanian, could be their inaugural captain.

Problem solved. You know it makes sense.

Alright I'll elaborate.

You haven't offered an opinion yet other than saying St Kilda are ahead of Collingwood on the ladder. Never mind that Collingwood have actually beaten St Kilda, and Geelong, and had to travel to Brisbane already. Having gotten really close to making the GF last year and improving their list. That puts them in tier 1 for me.

Melbourne lost to Essendon and were a bit shaky against Richmond. The Brisbane game was a domination until the weird blackout. But they have the tools and their ceiling is pretty high.

Brisbane got thumped by Port and done by the Bulldogs who were down on form at the time. Besides that, good performers with a couple of big scalps.

Geelong had the slow start to the season so are still playing catch up and need a big scalp. But I'm bullish on them and their status as one of the top few contenders is warranted.

The above teams have some finals experience, decent lists and for three of them - a massive dominance at their home ground. They're all in tier 2 but could push into tier 1 with a few good weeks.

St Kilda have failed their two big tests - their other wins were vs Freo, Carlton, Gold Coast, GWS and Essendon. I think there's pnly room for one of those sides to play finals. The Saints, like Carlton, fell away last season so it's still harder to have faith in them.

Port by results are getting closer but when they are bad, they are very bad. They have holes in their list. Both statements are true for the Bulldogs. All tier 3 teams, making up the numbers until proving otherwise.

Which parts do you disagree with? Or are there just 10 teams in tier 1 until we get to the last few rounds of the season?

Thats not a retro Geelong scarf. If they want to really reproduce a retro image ... I want the black cat... Its really what we should be. The Black cats not some furry feel good thing... that face was something introduced around 2008. Imo it should almost be like a black puma or panther but the whole history of why we are cats is that its a black cat that brings bad luck to other sides...

Middle one is still my all-time fave. The classic '80s and '90s logo. Merch with that logo always looks so much better.
