Anybody else feel like the new Tassie team's prospective name "The Devils" is a bit on the nose?
Personally, no
Tasmanian Devils are unique to Tasmania.
What other animal or thing could be associated with Tasmania. Apples, Salmon, Fresh air??

Alright I'll elaborate.

You haven't offered an opinion yet other than saying St Kilda are ahead of Collingwood on the ladder. Never mind that Collingwood have actually beaten St Kilda, and Geelong, and had to travel to Brisbane already. Having gotten really close to making the GF last year and improving their list. That puts them in tier 1 for me.

Melbourne lost to Essendon and were a bit shaky against Richmond. The Brisbane game was a domination until the weird blackout. But they have the tools and their ceiling is pretty high.

Brisbane got thumped by Port and done by the Bulldogs who were down on form at the time. Besides that, good performers with a couple of big scalps.

Geelong had the slow start to the season so are still playing catch up and need a big scalp. But I'm bullish on them and their status as one of the top few contenders is warranted.

The above teams have some finals experience, decent lists and for three of them - a massive dominance at their home ground. They're all in tier 2 but could push into tier 1 with a few good weeks.

St Kilda have failed their two big tests - their other wins were vs Freo, Carlton, Gold Coast, GWS and Essendon. I think there's pnly room for one of those sides to play finals. The Saints, like Carlton, fell away last season so it's still harder to have faith in them.

Port by results are getting closer but when they are bad, they are very bad. They have holes in their list. Both statements are true for the Bulldogs. All tier 3 teams, making up the numbers until proving otherwise.

Which parts do you disagree with? Or are there just 10 teams in tier 1 until we get to the last few rounds of the season?
I’d have thought saying the pies are ‘well in front’ is a stretch. They beat the saints and bombers by a kick. They beat an undermanned, underdone Geelong. Flogged by brissy. Think they’ll have a battle tomorrow. Long way to go surely, before you can say they are that far ahead of the pack?

Geez, adding that "well" ahead of "front" really seems to have irked people. It's semantics. I have them in first place on form right now, that may change. They're favourites for top 2 and with MCG finals and last year's experience under their belt, I would back them to go as far as last year at least. On the proviso that you know, anything can happen over the next 16 weeks to change my opinion. It's pretty boring to just say "throw a blanket over 10 teams". Offer your own opinion and it might offer a different angle.

And do we think 2 or 3 weeks on the sidelines for Matt Johnson?

The umpire has already paid a free against him for high contact, and then he just dumps Zorko into the ground - regardless what you think of the bloke being tackled, it's an unnecessarily heavy tackle, especially with the whistle already blown

Happy to say they are the front runners and at this point look more likely to make the gf than anyone else. Just don’t see them as lots better.
So they have their noses in front in April.
Then I’d put Geelong, Dees, Brissy, Saints, Port, crows. Too early to make big calls on any of these teams.
Then bombers, Carlton, Dogs. Too early to make calls on these three also.
So I’d have thought it’s way too early to be saying these things.
If, as I expect, our form continues to build, I’ll be placing us ahead of the pies because i actually think our best is better than theirs. But again it’s a long way to go.
And swans - don’t know.

Oh I forgot Richmond. I had them written off but their draw has been tough so I’m saying I’m not sure about them yet, but hoping for 9th for them!

Anyone else find it strange that Melbourne-North Melbourne and Richmond-Gold Coast are the FTA games this weekend, when you have games like Essendon-Geelong and Adelaide-Collingwood "relegated" to Foxtel?

I know that when the fixture was drawn up that the boffins wouldn't have figured in that Essendon and Adelaide would be travelling as well as they are at the moment, but even based on potential ratings, surely the two Foxtel games would have more people tune into them purely based on the sizes of the respective supporter bases.

People pay for Fox.

More lucrative for the AFL I'd imagine, so there'll always been a tendency to push the better games over to where people pay for the privilege.

Freo really are just complete s**t this year
It shouldn't be that surprising. They were a young team who played extremely well last year.

Then they turned around and got rid of a bunch of their experienced players (Lobb, Mundy, Acres, Tucker, Logue, Meek) while bringing in another youngster (Jackson) and a bit of a spud (O'Meara). Add in a few injuries (Fyfe, Chapman, Taverner, Colyer and now Frederick) and they were always likely to struggle.
