SEN today posing the question - Are Carlton the new Premiership favourites?

That game was a bit of an outlier for them based on a trend of results if I am remembering correctly
It was before that game. Including that game tho their most recent scores are 105, 97, 130 and 103.

I think Grundy's absence has had a much bigger impact compared to where Petty was or wasn't playing.

I thought Daicos was meant to miss 6 weeks which would likely have him miss week 1 of the finals
You wouldn't think he'd be able to do much conditioning work with a bung knee either, could come back underdone, if he is tagged as well he might end up with 3 possessions in the biggest comeback since Lazarus.

Similar to Melbourne allowing Patraca to play hurt in last year's finals. That ended up being detrimental for them.

I wonder what the actual go was with Petty having a cry. Must have been something more in it than whatever Zorks said.

The more bizarre thing was Richardson getting straight on the telecast and making a song and dance about it as if there'd been some heinous crime committed.

They really jumped the gun there and never paid any price for stirring up a hornet's nest and being completely precious over nothing.

Even if it’s true, we’re a pretty well run club now and I doubt we’ll struggle to find a decent replacement. Some fresh voices might not be the worst thing in the world.

Personally I don't subscribe to the "fresh voices is good" spruiking that appears so prevalent here.
It has been pointed out numeros times that for whatever reason this place is full of "the grass is greener on the other side of the fence" type people.

I've been long enough in various roles and diverse industries to learn that you need to do everything possible to keep the good operators. Good people are hard to replace. We have had a very steady and consistent football department team. You don't achieve the type of culture and competitiveness we have shown for the past five years with incompetent operators.

We were very lucky with the Fages/Noble team coming at the some time. They knew better than to shake the tree. They could see there was good talent that needed to be nurtured not turfed out and the whole club benefited. Bad environments lose good talent. Personally I would not like to lose anyone that has delivered us to this point. We are close, oh so very close and the last thing we need is to start gutting the place with a notion of lets get new voices.

It appears you have misread my post and lumped me in with a school of thought based on that.

I’m not cheering for Daly to leave. He is a part of that well run club. My point is—it’s better to lose those figures in a position of strength when you trust your club to make good appointments. There may yet be silver linings. Change isn’t necessarily good but neither is stasis.
