Spreadsheet created by Lore and Taylor, using data from footywire and AFL Tables. Version above maintained by giantroo.

Data from footywire. To check the draft order see the thread here.

Footywire says: "While we make every effort to keep up to date with player contracts, it is likely that our data may at times be out of date, incomplete or inaccurate. If you find any player contracts that need updating, please let us know using our brand new contract submission form."

Our player retention right now is looking pretty damn good considering we haven't exactly been softly softly with list management over the past few years and these guys have all now played in consecutive spoon seasons. Shudder to think what would have happened if we didn't get Clarko though.

I am happy Goldy will play his 350th game and retire as a Roo.

Would have seemed wrong to see him play out his career in another team's colours, he has been the one of the greatest Shinboner's this century.

Decision to reject Ben Brown's contract demands vindicated.

He was right for the Dees and helped them win a flag last year, but his limitations are sorely on display now.

Would have been negligence for us to sign him at what he wanted for as long as he wanted given where we were.

Give us priority picks now you dogs.

So in summary the likes of Brown and Tarrent are good enough players to help a team finish top 4-8 and win a flag but since North weren't contending trade them out.

Build a young team that won't win much as it develops.

Cry poor and beg for a handout after trading older core players who would have made you more competitive.

Sounds like a plan. :thumbsu:

North seem to be chasing lots of trades but only hold pick 1 and future picks. So no surprise pick 1 is on the market.

Having brown on our books for 2 more years would have been a poor decision. He looks totally cooked.

We offered Tarrant a contract.

2 more years like 2022 and WCE will be begging for a handout.

Sorry North are getting priority picks when it's the Eagles that actually need them.

Bet they won't.

Nor would they get one. Nor should they.

Eagles make cash even when bottom 4. Won a flag in 2018 and have missed finals two years in a row. Missing finals four years in a row isn't an issue for the AFL to concern itself over. Especially when they don't need to prop the club up financially.

On a slight side note. In 2022 the Eagles (and North) had a worse season than Essendon did when 99% of its list was suspended for 12 months.

What does that say to you?

And the answer is not "we should get priority picks".

It’s all part of our grand plan. Cut those not up to it - move on the oldies - bottom out -stock up with top end talent - get the goat coach - become a powerhouse.

Easy.

Ridiculous using Richmond as a point of reference. If indeed the Tigers do get better in 2023 and finish higher than 7th, then it's not really Richmond the current Roos outfit should be using as their yardstick. It's the teams that are finishing 9th to 14th that are a better comparison.

When we were horrible in 2009-10 and being compared to Fitzroy 1995 as the worst team ever, it wasn't Geelong or the Saints we were trying to get better than the following year. It was those 8 or 9 or so teams immediately above us ... maybe put together 8-10 wins the next season if we're lucky and push for finals the year after that. As it turned out we got 8 wins in 2011 and considered it a really positive year.

As it turns out, it is debatable whether the addition of Taranto and Hopper will significantly outweigh the loss of Edwards, Lambert, Caddy and whoever else we have to give up to bring those two boys in, and the inevitable decline of aging stars Cotchin, Riewoldt, Grimes and Martin. It could end up being a zero-sum change for Richmond anyway.

Delusional opinion piece by the looks
If the Herald Sun runs a positive North story then it’s almost guaranteed fact.
They have no interest painting us in a positive light unless it’s good mail from AFL house.

I don't think PP's that impact other clubs at the draft should be allowed.

However I do think additional TPP and soft cap should be allowed for the lowest 4 club's which tapers off.

For example 18th gets an extra $1mil tpp, 17th $750k, 16th 500k etc

Some extra spots helps too

It’s not the competition’s fault North have nothing between picks 1 and 55.

We didn’t force you to trade for CCJ.

North don’t want picks because of the CCJ trade. They want them because they have been close to the worst side, if not the worst side since Fitzroy over the past 3 years. Even if we still had the CCJ pick, North would still be after picks. Before you or anyone suggests it was self inflicted, well every side that comes last is because of self inflicted decisions.

It's ridiculous north can trade out a top20 pick them demand dole charity a few months later.

It sets a very slippery slope for future rebuilding teams

So you were against Richmond getting Deledio and Rance? These 2 shouldn't have been allowed to be draft to Richmond?

So in other words - do a Richmond??

Tiger supporters have really selective memories and forget the begging that they did.

Let me help jog your memory:

2007 The Richmond Football club traded pick 19 (hello CCJ) for Jordan McMahon and pick 35 for Mitch Morton.

Leaving the Tigers with pick 2 and 51!!

Demanded dole charity - and received pick 18 - welcome to Richmond Alex Rance.

The Tigers set up the slippery slope for future rebuilding teams to slide down. Cheers Richmond.

No Richmond did not trade future draft picks them request them back some months later
lol - is that how you are trying to get out of it??? Richmond traded out their 2nd rounder and 3rd rounder and begged for their 2nd back.

The future loop hole your trying to use is hilarious. Hopefully CCJ doesn't become a McMahon but we still get a Rance with 19!!!
