North releases Harvey, Dal Santo, Petrie and Firrito

Did you read it? He said he didn't want to speak in public. Do you want him to hire a skywriter?
Fair enough he doesnt want to speak to the media, but why isn't the club directly releasing his statement and not merely copying his comments made on Facebook.
Then we have the club copying Furrito's comments he made on Instagram.
Doesn't anyone from the Kangaroos media unit report directly? Do they even talk to the players directly? Or do they just surf the net and regurgitate info gleaned from social media and the media at large onto your "official" club site.
A spotty faced 16 year old could do better.
Also good form to see a report on the club site on the 23rd about Dal Santo and how he wants to play on. Next day no longer required. (embarrassing)
Nothing from Petrie yet - I'd better check Facebook, Instagram etc for an 'update' from the club.

What a professional way your club has handled this whole matter.
Good to see the club has announced the "Roo Shop has 30% off this week" - last opportunity to buy those boomer items!;)

He can play anywhere on the ground and he also doesn't have to play every week. That he is keeping some poor young player from an opportunity to get more experience is an utter furphy.
Yeah hes not like a Goldstein where there is really only one spot for a first ruck - plenty of spots for blokes to play a similar Harvey role if they are good enough even if you play him

Regardless of what you think of Boomer and his ability to play next year, the biggest influence this decision has on the NMFC is the fact that North can change-up the structure, including personnel, of their side next year to a much greater degree. Boomer is great, but like the other 3 there are areas of the game that North as a collective need to improve on and the sooner they find out what they can do, the sooner they can look at improving it.

Lol - you rave about 22 year old Daniher yet Ben Brown can't be discussed as he is 23!! Brown has had a better year and is not the worst kick for goal in the AFL. But Daniher is a star!!

Back to back bottom 4 yet you have great young talent. You older players must be duds if you are a bottom 4 side.
I guess that deflection means you don't have any guns under 22 then wild bill...Prepare for bottom 4 yourself mate....Expect a few of us to enjoy the ride thanks to you riding us for the last 4 years...tables turn

Quite the opposite - most finals teams have young guns, or players waiting in the wings who are ready to go.

I'm curious who at North fits this bill, given the rationale behind this is to make room for list development and improvement.

David King (surprisingly) summed it up pretty well last night. Harvey isn't really keeping anyone out if Ray, Nahas etc. are getting semi-regular games.

But then he's taking another player's spot? We have kids ready to go in every position on the ground who have been denied opportunity because we have too many over 30s. We have to get rid of them sooner or later or we lose our next generation.

Again, Mr Media Manager, how do you want them to release the news? You're not offering any alternatives here.

No you don't, at least not kids that are any good.

North's team at the weekend had 7 players 30 or over. Someone at the club just sorted the 22 by age and cut the 4 oldest.

Weribee lost their last three games by 80, 100, and 40 and are currently 12th on the VFL ladder with 6 wins. They played 10 north melbourne listed players against casey and lost by 100 (Casey had 12-14 melbourne listed players including a cat. B rookie). I don't think boomer is what is keeping these kids from getting games, I think it's the kids aren't setting the world alight in the twos

You could have cut loose Petrie, Firrito and Dal Santo (who actually are cooked) and have kept Boomer who, as has already been mentioned, can play anywhere and is not cooked. Boomer could probably be managed for the next 2 years if you rested him for some interstate trips or games against rubbish sides.

You appear to be believe that it's either cut Boomer or destroy your future. That it's an 'either/or' proposition is utter crap and the mind boggles that you seem to think this is the case and the club had no choice.

Again, Mr Media Manager, how do you want them to release the news? You're not offering any alternatives here.

You keep the players in the loop throughout the season about their futures.
You give them advance notice that their services are no longer required and advise them of an opportunity to announce their retirements or front the media after the sting has gone out of it.
The players could have fronted the media today or tomorrow if the club had been able to advise the players and kept the decision under wraps. This would have afforded them some dignity.
Harvey should have been told weeks ago, not having to ask when the axe was going to fall and pre-empting all of this.

As it exists now there are to be supporter protests at what is potentially his last game, instead of just the celebration of a distinguished career. Guess which will attract the media focus. Have a look at the feeding frenzy today and tell me how professional your club has handled the end of a champion players career.

(Now as Norths media manager , could you do the club a favor and monitor Facebook, I'll keep an eye on Instagram and Twitter.
Oh while you are there maybe you could monitor Grinder for the club too, just in case one of the players come out of the closet this week.)

Lol he has kicked one goal all year in the 2's.. such a like for like there. How would he ever use his forward nonce while boomer is in that high half forward position. Try again.

How about the games Clarke plays he starts in the forward 50 before working up the ground, in the same mid-forward role Boomer occupies. In the twos he plays a different role. If you keep Boomer and then Higgins comes back into the side, Clarke doesn't get a game.

Again, Boomers announcement is by social media - classy comment from a champion player, but seriously what is wrong with North Melbourne's media people. Maybe they should sack them and rely on Twitter.
How should they have done it? Told the players Tuesday - they didn't want a press conference so before it got out made an announcement.
