I think the Roos have been very careful this week - not to talk us up, but too make sure they dont go on "promising a goal blitz", "and we are not in awe", "and "they are not unbetable" like every other team. IN fact, im impressed with their attitude - honest, but not in awe, fair comments, etc. Few others can take leaf out of their book. looking forward to a cracking match!

Couldn't agree more. Theyve done a fine job.

When I saw this thread I thought of what North did in the lead up to the Essendon game in 01. This kind of has the feel about it. North aren't just letting the media do the underating this week.

No doubt a reverse psychology tactic.

The REAL test for them tho' is how they handle themselves after the game: WIN and the lid will probably be blown off, LOSE and the lid might be glued on for yet another year. The response will tell us a lot about how far the Kangas can go in 2008 - possibly as much as the result will.

Is the belief there? Can they reproduce winning form for another 6 games? Juicy, very juicy.

I think its safe to say that Geelong are at a point where every other team respects us. But no other team has come out in every interview in the week before the game constantly saying how fantastic we are...

Usually its "blah blah no fear this" and "blah blah no fear that" and "rah rah taking the game on" etc etc.

These matches worry me because we have nothing to gain nor lose EXCEPT injuries and suspensions. Thats it. But these 2 games give us a good chance to blood some kids against good players.

I don't think anything said will affect the outcome. Cats are well drilled and know the significance of this game. Lose to us and we front up again in two weeks at the MCG, nobody "wants" to go down this close to the finals when your will be playing the opponent in the QF if you do lose.

North are just a respectful side, said similar things about the Blues last week and the Dogs the week before that they had talent and we respected that and we had to play very well to beat them.

There are no psychological experts at North, you pay your respects, you play to the best of your ability and win or lose you deal with the consequences. I think it is tinfoil hat stuff to think anything else. Of course the Cats are beatable, you just have to play well enough on the day and hope the cats are not in red hot because they are tough to beat when red hot.

I think the roos go out with a nothing to loose mentality and it really works for them - anything can happen.

To be honest I don't think this week's build-up has been any different than any others from the last little while - there are always a couple of articles where blokes talk us up, all the while saying how they'll leave nothing out there, etc. etc and see how they go.

Unlike most other teams, though, I reckon North fancy their chances and I don't blame them. They are going well at the moment and have the guts to stick with us if things aren't going super well for them.

Why are you getting all defensive? Surely it's not because i disagreed with you?

Not getting defensive at all mate, just think its pretty condescending to tell ppl they are being "precious" when they discuss comments that other teams make about us, thats all. :thumbsu:

Everytym North comes out in the media and has a few things to say we get stitched up. However its always the players rating ourselves. This week its us rating the Cats. Myt work for us myt not

The "problem" (not a problem really) Geelong has is that nobody dislikes them! No other team begrudges them their time in the sun. At least, that's the impression I get. It's very hard for opposing teams to come up with media plans/strategies to but them off. We (North) have probably just adopted the approach of being honest this week because we might as well (nothing else will work, anyway). Of course, we hope that we can knock you off and believe that we have a team that will give it a real crack. North's "problem", up to this week, was that nobody took us seriously. After we, literally, wiped the floor with Calton last week everybody has really started to take notice and completely change their tune. Reading Robert Wall's column today was a bizarre experience for me as he's adopted a completely different view of North. The question is will this instill serious confidence in our boys? If it does then anything could happen on Sunday! On the other hand, the reverse could occur and we could fall in a very big hole! My guess is that the media are really puffing us up this week because no matter what happens they'll have a big story after the game. It will either be "Geelong, once again, put pretenders to the sword!" or "All hail the big challenger!".
