PREVIEW: Richmond v Sydneyby: Paul GoughSportal

VENUE & TIME: MCG, 2.10pm, Saturday April 7.

HEAD TO HEAD: Richmond 100, Sydney 76, Draw 1.

LAST TIME: Sydney 14.17 (101) d Richmond 7.11 (53) at the SCG, round 16, 2006.

WALKING WOUNDED: The Tigers will again go in light on for height with their two best ruckman Troy Simmonds and Trent Knobel still sidelined with ankle injuries while versatile big man Ray Hall is also still injured. And star forward Nathan Brown is not expected back until round three at the earliest after developing a 'hot spot' on his shin, near where he broke his leg two years ago. The Swans suffered a blow in the lead-in to this game by losing star forward Nick Davis with a foot injury but his absence is off-set by the return of Adam Schneider.

FORM: Both these teams went down in the first round but could take encouraging signs out of those matches for this week. The Swans stormed home in the second half but went down by a point to West Coast, in an identical result to last year's grand final, while the Tigers played good football early against Carlton to set up a 27-point lead in the third quarter before being overrun and losing by 17 points to a team that had an edge in match fitness after winning the NAB Cup.

WHO'S HOT: Greg Tivendale has long been the whipping boy of Richmond supporters but even his harshest critics would have been impressed by his first round showing. The long-kicking wingman picked up 24 touches against the Blues and for a player who is often criticised for his disposal he hardly wasted a single possession while also collecting a match-high ten contested possessions. For the Swans it was Brett Kirk who starred during the one point loss to West Coast with 29 possessions as well as eight tackles and six clearances in a typical hard-working display.

WE THINK: This is a danger game for the Swans. Paul Roos' team has a history of starting seasons slowly and the Tigers' effort last week wasn't that bad. The ruck is the Tigers' biggest worry but they did beat Sydney the last time they met at the MCG two years ago. Richmond by three points.

Paul Gough is a Tiger.

Can be known as a positive spin reporter for us.

Just doing his duty as a Tiger.

We will get smashed by a much more experienced and programmed side.

If we weren't bad against the Blues and lost by 17 points but had 17 less scoring shots, and the Swans didnt look good and lost by 1 point against the best team in the country, well that tells you a story!

If we didn't turn the ball over so many times, the blues would have only had about 10 more scoring shots than us. Don't expect players like Newman, Tuck etc to kick it straight to the opposition under no pressure this week. We'll be fitter and better this week I'm sure. We were a bit rusty last week and there were enough good signs. I feel confident about this for some reason and I hope the boys don't let me down ;)

Rodney Eade said on SEN last night that he reckons Terry has something special up his sleeve for tomorrow. Similar to the Crows game last year, but not the same tactics.

Good luck for the game Tiges. Terry Wallace can always pull out one of those fantastic games that lift supporters hearts at the right time (i.e. against Adelaide last year). There has been some bad blood between our two great clubs this week, but you know that if you play an interstate club - we will be barracking for you.:) as a great Victorian side.

Good post mate. :thumbsu:
At the end of the day we're all up against the interstate juggernauts and the sooner the Vic clubs realise they all need to row in the boat the better for the game here in this state.
