Here are my Notes:

  • BJ and Wood's form was Frastrating both had Fantsatic Games against WC then Both Dropped Off
  • Anthony is not a Number 1 Target only played well against Hurley
  • Daisy could have a Break Out Year with his New Found Consistency
  • Could find 2 elite Mids in Sidebottom and Beams. They just look like Naturals on the Footy Field
  • Midfield still needs improvement

There are some and you can Comment or Add your own

Anthony won't have to be a number 1 foward, Cloke has that tied up for years to come. I think our fowardline looked as more dangerous than it has without Rocca for a long time when Ried played high, Cloke played deeper and Anthony leading out the goal square.

Reid's preseason form would have him close to best 22 for the year based on his preformance, potential and versatility.

Beams has "it" very well rounded and smart footballer.

Ruck is still a major issue.

Missing Burns combined with that poor rucking makes clearnaces a bigger issue.

Brown's poor form at the end of last season has continued in the pre-season which is slightly alarming.

Goldsack has fallen behind Toovey and possibly Cox IMO all three will be fighting it out for spots throughout the year.

Stanley is not being given a fair go.

Dawes is a fair way of AFL ready IMO.

Beams is a great find, but is not ready to be a centre square midfielder yet. HFF is his go, for now. Rotations.
Dawes struggles to have an impact if the team isn't generating inside 50's.
Anthony is a brilliant foil for the likes of Rocca and Cloke. Is well ahead of Rusling at this stage.
Toovey is in career best form.
Cook needs to improve both his decision making and his execution. Tough ask.
Wellingham is still too inconsistent, but his best is very good.
Wood needs to be given consistent game time.
Bryan is a known quantity.
Johnson should only be given games if other more talented players are struggling for form/fitness.
Anthony Corrie cost very little. That's a silver lining.
Leigh Brown is depth.
O'Bree is a much maligned and underrated player.
O'Brien will be a very, very good player given time.
Shaw needs to work on his disposal into the forward 50 in particular.
Sidebottom needs to start in the VFL.
Reid: see O'Brien.
Clarke has improved overhead, he's a very well-rounded player now.
Thomas is very good down back, but probably can't stay there.
Cloke will probably never improve his kicking to an acceptable standard.
Didak is playing within himself.
Davis: see Didak.

Agree with both DTM and shawthing, except I think Goldsack would be in front of Toovey at this stage and 50/50 with Cox. Very happy with Toovey's preseason though and as you said it will be a closely contested position, with BJ also in the running for the spot.

Well Most Forwards would Struggle but he Struggled to know where to go

Sidebottom needs to start in the VFL.

Why is that because if does not play he would not be in the VFL for long

Wood needs to be given consistent game time.

Agree plus we have nothing better anyway so might as well Stick with him and hope he improves

Beams is a great find, but is not ready to be a centre square midfielder yet. HFF is his go, for now. Rotations.

Could spend time in the Center Square but He would mostly play as you say TRS HFF or on the Wing

I hope they extent Beams contract early.

We don't want the GC17 to come knocking and chasing him hard.

Although I believe it was his desire to play for a Melbourne based club and Collingwood was his wish.

Yeah he did want to play for Us, so I doubt if GF Came knocking he would show no Intrest but I dare say it will be Extended before the GC has there chance

Cox will get more games than most anticipate, almost a replacement rhyce shaw, plays on at every opportunity..

Lockyer is our new 2009 underrated footballer, has lost little ability and is a great utility. Top 10 b&f this year.

leigh brown is still a dud. will give the coaching craw til early next year to turn him around liek they did medhurst but medders had a considerable amount of talent on his side, brown has size and that's about it. we can pray though.

also i don't see why sidebottom can't play round 1 looked comfortable on the field against essendon. did he play against the cats i didnt see? and anyhow poor performances from a single player in the final shouldn't be singled out because from what i hear it was a genrally poor performance

I don't think Sidebottom's use was all that great against the Bombers, and he, like many of our boys did nothing against the Cats. I'd like to see him play a few games in the VFL first. I'm not saying he'll stay there long, but even Pendles started in the VFL and he was walking into a much weaker 2006 lineup which hadn't made finals in two years.

I like him a lot, but I don't think he's in our best 22 anymore.

Beams looks ready to play Rd1, would like to see Sidebottom come through VFL.

Toovey and Cox should both be selected Rd1.

Wood has been in poor form but I think should be persisted with over Bryan only because of potential. Also doesn't make as bad decisions as Bryan does.

I expect to see quite a few of the older players who have very recently been referred to as "not in our best 22" suddenly have a form reversal when the real football starts and a few of the younger players with "zero" AFL experience feel the heat of the big time.

Don't get me wrong I am in no way putting our recruits down just those who would write off players who have a couple of tough seasons under their belts but played a bit loose in a NAB Cup game.

i think the biggest positive would be Reid's form in the pre-season....

we should do ok come season proper....
just a bit concerned about how Medhurst would go without a proper pre-season.... should take about 3-4 weeks to get going i feel

I thought his Handballing was Excellent in his 1st 2 Game and Espically under pressure, like in the 4th quater vs the Cats where he had 3 cats coming at him then he fired off a Handball to a player.

Those I thought he kicking was not as Crash hot as he missed a Couple of Tragets and put the Player under pressure

Beams looks like a great pick up. I think he warrants a game round 1.

His goal off the pack the other week was something beyond a lot of players in the comp. All class.

Looks the goods.

I don't think it was his kicking, but more so his decision making.

One of them anyway but I was dissapointed in that because I was told his Kicking(Espically Short Kicks) were elite but I guess he is just getting use to playing at Collingwood and at AFL Level

I was really pleased with Thomas, Reid and Anthony. If they can be consistent, that will go a long way to help us this year.

Pendles, Swan, Lockyer, Davis, Didak etc. were all solid and mainly played within themselves.

Cox, Toovey, Corrie, L Brown, Cook and Wellingham were OK in patches.

Beams and Sidebottom showed some nice signs.

Consistency will be the key this year.
