Alcohol equates to fun? Drugs are no different to Alcohol. Other than the legality, Whats the difference between going out and getting blind drunk or going out and having a pill or a line of speed? Alcohol is a socially-acepted drug, as is caffiene and cigarettes? I myself am a stereotypical uni student who attends lectures and tutes, then goes out to get plastered and chase girls. Yet here i am starting my postgrad degree after successfully finishing my undergrad degree. The point is that it's too narrow-minded to conclude that life is too short to spend getting drunk. It's just thatnot everyone is going to end up blind drunk and attending AA. Look at how popular pubs and clubs are as a place for socialising and how so many other restaurant places serve alcohol. So am i like right here or what?

Except the legal ones are subject to government regulations and quality standards.

Each to his own poison though.

Is this the case for most other drugs?

Can't say I really know as I am not into that scence, but from I hvae seen, those on othe drugs tend to enjoy the feeling for themselves but do not necessarily interact with others well.

I don't agree with getting blind drunk either. I've seen the results of years of heavy drinking first hand and it ain't pretty.

Sorry Fred...i wasnt having a go at you personally. Just a statement that a lot of people think one poison is totally acceptable yet they hound others and think lowly of those that decided to take other poisons.

No probs Macca. I would imagine that almost every addict first tried whatever they're addicted to with the thought they'd just try it to see what it's like. I wonder how many regret the first try now.

I wasnt having a go at people who drink, or who get drunk every weekend. I like to drink. I dont get drunk every weekend, but probably once every 6 weeks ill get plastered.

My point was that a lot of people talk down on drug takers and have a go that they are addicts etc etc yet these same people probably couldnt go a few weekends without drinking.

Well id say youd need to experience first hand at something like a rave for yourself...because whenever ive used ecstasy or been to a rave i just talk and talk and talk and talk- mostly to people ive never met before...and id say its a similar experience for the majority of people that use that drug. It promotes social interactiveness more than alcohol. But i guess its more the scene as well. Raves are friendly experiences. Everyone is friendly. But the pub/club scene comes across as rude, arrogant and generally snobby. You cant walk up to anyone and start a conversation in a club or a pub. People rarely interact with people outside their own group in clubs and pubs. Thats been my general experience anyway.

You can broadly divide drugs into uppers and downers. Uppers being that they make you sociable and friendly, and downers make you withdrawn.

Uppers: Coke, ecstacy, speed, viagra

Downers: pot, acid, heroin.

Although alcohol gives people courage to talk to the opposite sex etc, a downside is that it makes some people aggressive. I've never seen anyone on ecstacy get into a fight before.

Stimulants , Depressants , Hallucinogens & Opioids are the four major categories.

Alcohol is classed as a depressant.

like Alcohol... or Valium with Alcohol... whoah mama everything looking a bit weird now???

Downers / Depressents dont make you feel like you are on a downer as such. They having a numbing affect which softens the senses and motor skils....They make you not as sharp but none the less, make you feel good or makes things feel or seem better.
