Roos to dodge 2009 finalists
NORTH Melbourne's hopes of rebounding from a disappointing 2009 have been boosted by confirmation it will play just two of this year's finalists on two occasions.
Matches against St Kilda (rounds two and 20) and the Western Bulldogs (nine and 18) will make up four of North's 13 games at Etihad Stadium next year.
A favourable travel draw will also see the Roos play more than half of their interstate matches before the mid-season break.
After six trips this year, with the first of those not until round 12, they will only hit the road five times in 2010.
The season will start against Port Adelaide at AAMI Stadium before clashes with Hawthorn at Aurora Stadium (round five), Fremantle at Subiaco (10), the Sydney Swans at the SCG (15) and a second trip to the west to meet the Eagles (21).
The Roos do not play successive games away from Melbourne like they did in rounds 14 and 15 this year.
On the home front, they can expect their healthiest attendances for a Friday night clash with Carlton (round 12) and a Saturday night match against another crowd-puller, Essendon (17).
A disappointing few years - particularly from a crowd perspective - has left the Friday night pioneers with just one game in the marquee timeslot.
The Roos' only encounter with premier Geelong is in round 14 and that match will be played at Skilled Stadium.
They also have three games at the MCG - round seven against Collingwood, round 16 against Richmond and round 22 against Melbourne, in what is a floating fixture with time and day to be determined.
The Roos' match breakdown includes five Saturday, five Saturday night, eight Sunday and two Sunday twilight games, with eight games to be broadcast on free-to-air television: three less than 2009.
