It's our own fault, we should have been further up the ladder and not had pick 3 anyway

well, not so much 'our' fault as it is the teams fault. I know it would be nice to pick Viney up with 2nd or 3rd round picks like Geelong did with their father sons back in the day, but I'm happy to bear paying pick 3 for him. We have had more than enough low draft picks to play around with and getting jv with one of them is still a good deal IMO

Would Toumpas be a better option? Sounds like he might have a bit more class about him. We will have Sylvia, Jones, Viney who can do the grunt work in the middle. I feel we need a bit more class in the middle of the ground...

Yes, I think he probably would be.

Yes, I think he probably would be.

Wouldn't mind us landing Jackson Macrae, classy left footer who has a very good season and has been terrific during the TAC Cup finals series. Would inject some real class to the side as well.

Whitfield will go 1 and Toumpas 2 in my opinion.

I know we need players who are ready to play, but GWS will be pretty keen on Grundy so perhaps we have a chance to offer up picks 3 and 4 for Hogan and Martin and also an extra pick around the 10 - 15 mark.

I would be up for this, because outside of the top 3 players in this draft there seems to be a pretty even range that runs quite deep. Also, GWS won't get a better deal than that for the 2 priority picks.

Fair enough. But if we have to take Viney with pick 3, and both Toumpas and Grundy are both available for us at pick 4, who should we take? That's a tough call. We need class in the middle, so I'd be tempted to take Toumpas ahead of Grundy. But i guess it depends on whether we keep the likes of Gysberts or Martin and if Neeld plans on using pick 13 on a young mid or trade it for Hogan or a senior player on another list. Geez, a lot of our plans depend on whether we can get Viney with our 2nd rounder. I'm still doubtful, but it would be a massive boost for us if we do...
It's a no-brainer. We take Toumpas. Despite the hysteria from some posters about him, I doubt that Grundy will get drafted in the top 6.

I see it playing out a few ways depending on Viney, if Viney slides then we pick up Hogan or Grundy with pick 4 leaving us with 3 Mids who's value is top 12 and the best KPP in the draft.

Or Viney at 3 and a hard decision but is still think it Balances out at best to go wit h3/1 mids to KPP but getting a more speculative pick with 24

Or even Viney sliding going Grundy and hogan with 3/4 knowing we will get a Stringer, Wines, O'rourke, Macrae, Mayes, Simpson at 12 and even another shot with a compensation pick in the 20's....... from Moloney and rivers and any other trades which we may lose

That's the link for the live stream of the TAC Cup GF for those who may be interested, Viney's not playing but here are a list of players I'll be taking an interest in (bearing in mind I don't know many from Gippy) for our first rounders.

- #4 Tim Membrey (Gippsland captain and undersized power forward, has a big future)
- #21 Jackson Macrae (Outside midfielder, but he'll develop an inside game - he's got a bit of mongrel about him)
- #13 Kristian Jaksch (KPP player - will probably play up forward, good mark and skills)

I really like the idea of taking Grundy. Haven't seen him and don't know much about the draftees being from Canberra but one of my close mates works at GC and did mention to me that this guy would be the ruckman in our next premiership. No jamar and possibly no Clark I think we take him. See what happens with jv, we either take him with 3 or we get another high class mid and viney with the 2nd round.

From watching the game today:

Membrey looks really really good. Extremely clean, well built, strong around the contest and is a really good kick. Seems to have a real knack for picking up loose balls in traffic with one touch and is so strongly built that he's able to dispose of it well when tackled. Also apparently possesses really good leadership skills. However his height is a worry (188cm i think) and would be another medium forward which we don't really need though from what i've seen he'd make a very good 2nd or 3rd option. Could be worth a look if we have a pick in the 20s and he's still available but i have a feeling he'd be gone by then after the last 2 weeks.

Macrae: A lot of hype surrounding this guy on the drafts and trading board but i don't really see it. Did a few ok things but looks awkward when he kicks and seems to be a purely outside player. His effort seemed to be lacking a bit too. Definitely didn't assert himself on this game and if we drafted him at 4 i'd have nightmares of Cale Morton all over again. However it is only one game and a lot of scouts rate him so...

Jacksh: Very skinny, doesn't work hard enough off the ball. No thanks

cheers for the report deeman, I think we can rest assured that players with lack of effort wont be drafted under neeld, I hope.
On Membrey, does he play like a power forward? could be a draft slider because of his in-between height

Having said that Macrae just got BOG so wtf do i know i guess.

Plus it's only one game mate. Hard to judge them solely just based on that.

Yeah Membrey plays a lot bigger than his height. Kicked 4 or 5 goals today and 8 last week, could've easily been 7 or 8 today as well. He seems to demand the ball, leads to the right spots and is so well built he seems a lot more ready made than most TAC cup players. Really good at ground level too and i'd definitely be fine with us taking him in the 20s. I think he's tipped to go around 20s in most mocks at the moment, however he has really starred in the finals so wouldn't surprise me if he went earlier than that.

Yup for sure. A lot of people are really keen on Macrae and he does look pretty silky and clean. Don't really want him at 3 or 4 though.

Agree and would be happy with him at #13 if he was there. Knightmare has us taking him at #4 in his mock draft but I think Melbourne fans are very nervous with the thought of drafting an outside midfielder these days. Everytime one of them is mentioned nothing but Cale Morton springs to mind!

It's hard to watch junior football - most people just focus on a few players and are waiting for them to contribute... so unless they absolutely dominate you often feel their output is less than it is.

Macrae had a good game, but I thought if Gippy won then Graham (#9) would have got the medal.

For what it's worth, Macrae's not another Cale Morton - his Dad and brother are well built so I'd imagine he'll fill out.

Yep spot on. I mean by all reports he could be a star but i just shudder thinking about taking any ouside mid at 4. I mean Cale was highly rated as a junior too obviously and has some similarities to Macrae. Both very skinny outside guys who were/are seen as classy as juniors. Not to say Macrae will be a total ******* like Cale but a lot of better options i think.

Yep you're probably right. I haven't watched a lot of junior football and was definitely only focusing on a bunch of players. Was a damn good game though.

Sure, I think we can rest assured that Neeld won't take someone he feels can't build up and hold his own with contested ball.

Also, big wraps on Membrey from that game.

Not everything went his way - but he took some strong 1 on 1 marks, the best thing was if he didn't win the ball he would keep his feet and follow up the contest... even kicking a ripper goal from one of them.

Will be well in the mix for our pick 13.

No, No, No. Compare Grundy to a young Brad Ottens. Ottens could also play forward, and had an AA year early in his career, but it took him 8 years to physically mature into a consistant AFL ruckman.

Just think that with the advent of free agency, you can acquire an AFL proven ruckman just as they have matured.

Yep seems to work extremely hard and his second efforts and work at ground level are really exceptional. Would be better than Dunn and Petterd straight off the bat you'd think, certainly with a much higher ceiling. Also can actually kick straight unlike some people named Howe. (i do love Howe though he just needs to learn to kick)

TAC Cup Future Stars have us taking Viney, Grundy and Nathan Hrovat in their phantom.

If we have to take Viney at #3, I'd much rather we spent #4 on a midfielder. If we get him late, than take however many ruckmen you want.
