Official Academy Awards Thread...Your Predictions here!

Hey guys.
Well, for myself and fellow avid film buffs, tommorow marks the 'night of nights.' The Academy Awards. Throughly looking forward to it.

Give me your predictions.

Hope you enjoy the night!

Best Film:
A BEAUTIFUL MIND
GOSFORD PARK
IN THE BEDROOM
THE LORD OF THE RINGS:
THE FELLOWSHIP OF THE RING
MOULIN ROUGE

Im predicting 'A Beautiful Mind'
A great film which throughly deserves it. A captivating film that really picks up momentum as it goes on.
I Will be disapointed if LOTR gets it. Hey, don't get me wrong, I loved it, but I don't think is the type of film that should win Best Picture. My opinion.

ACTOR IN A LEADING ROLE
Russell Crowe
Sean Penn
Will Smith
Denzel Washington
Tom Wilkinson

It has to be our Russel. Seriously, if he doesn't get it, it truly proves how corrupt those bunch of power-happy old dinosaurs really are. He is the stand-out by far, and his performance was nothing short of brilliant. He should be judged on his performance, and not on his off-screen behaviour.

ACTRESS IN A LEADING ROLE
Halle Berry
Judi Dench
Nicole Kidman
Sissy Spacek
Renée Zellweger

Well well, this is the toughest category of the night. It could really go to anyone in this category (Except Renee who has no chance in hell of winning despite a great performance as Bridget Jones) I would love to say Nicole, my heart says Nicole, but my head says Sissy Spacek. I did not see her in 'In the Bedroom' but from all reports, she was something special.

ACTOR IN A SUPPORTING ROLE
Jim Broadbent
Ethan Hawke
Ben Kingsley
Ian McKellen
Jon Voight

Hmmm. Interesting. Would love to see Ian McKellen win it as I thought he was brilliant in LOTR, but my tip is for Jim Broadbent ('Iris')

ACTRESS IN A SUPPORTING ROLE
Jennifer Connelly
Helen Mirren
Maggie Smith
Marisa Tomei
Kate Winslet

Not that sure about this category. Jennifer Connely is most likely the favourite, however, she really didn't have my leaving the theatre saying 'wow she was awesome.' Although, that is probably because she was overshadowed by Russel Crowe's performance. She is still my tip though.

CINEMATOGRAPHY
AMÉLIE
BLACK HAWK DOWN
THE LORD OF THE RINGS:
THE FELLOWSHIP OF THE RING
THE MAN WHO WASN'T THERE
MOULIN ROUGE

Thank God 'Black Hawk Down' wasn't nominated for Best Film. At least it picked up a nomination here as the cinematography was brilliant. It won't win the oscar, but it was brilliant :D. Its a very close call between LOTR and Moulin Rogue. Hmmmm, probably LOTR by a bee's ....

DIRECTING
A BEAUTIFUL MIND
BLACK HAWK DOWN
GOSFORD PARK
THE LORD OF THE RINGS:
THE FELLOWSHIP OF THE RING MULHOLLAND DRIVE

Hmmm, Ron Howard (Beautiful Mind) with a whisker over Peter Jackson (LOTR)

I hate the academy awards, I think thy are the biggest waste of time. All they do is highlight our obsession with a bunch of stuck up arseholes who get paid copious amounts of money for doing **** all work... They may say "oh but it is such hard work, you don't realize how hard it is, 12 hour days , oh my, so hard" Well for $20 million who the hell wouldnt do 12 hour days. Ah, they get so much free **** too, like $30 000 worth when they are already bloody rich as. I wish they'd all piss off.

By the way, don't stop making movies or I'll get bored on the rainy weekends.

Never said that at all, I said they (the ACTORS, not producers, directors and whatnot) get paid a hell of a lot of money for doing a relativley small amount of work.

the actors do a ****load of work

Lets say a movie takes a year to make. Julia Roberts gets paid $20000000 for doing the movie. To make it she has to work 12 hours a day, 7 days a week for the whole time. She gets $4567 an hour. And there is no way she is going to work for that long, so she would get closer to $10 - 15 grand an hour.

Hey Power Guy.
I agree with you in context.

They get paid an abseen amount of dough. Too much? Yes.
You have to release what they had to go through to get to were they are.

Most of them were struggling actors living in crummy flats, having 80 bucks in the bank, working double-shift jobs to get to the top. Hell yeah, they had to work bloody hard to get to the top. Yes, they get paid too much, but that's show business.
