Official BDO 2008 Thread

Its nearing time for the first announcement so I thought I'd start a thread for people to talk about anything to do with the Big Day Out.

I'll start off by saying that there is a very very very very strong chance that Rage Against the Machine will headline/co-headline.

Mods might want to sticky this as it will have about 5 months of discussion in it.

Rumours that Smashing Pumpkins and Foo Fighters will be co-headliners as well.

Went to my first BDO in '93 at Adelaide Uni and if the rumours of this years bands are true then it could possibly be the best one since '93.

OMG Arcade Fire, Foo Fighters, Rage on the same day, as well as the rumour that QOTSA are nearly certains.

I hope the Pumpkins sign on seeing as they didn't tour down here on their last album and from listening to some of their shows from the latest tour they'd put on one hell of a show.

RATM are almost certainties, Melb and Syd shows announced just 2 days apprt from the BDO and a statement saying that Syd, Bris, Perth & Auckland dates coming soon.

Like other i have heard - Arcade Fire, Bjork & QOTSA

would love the pumpkins though

With RATM already a dead cert to headline, i'm already super pumped for BDO '08. I haven't been in four years, which is a disgrace, so i'm gonna be going off.

QOTSA have been playing a stack of shows in North America and are hitting Europe in November so I'm betting they'll come down under in Jan. Has anyone else seen the footage of the set they played in Norway? It's freaking brilliant. Best live act in the world right now I reckon. They also supported RATM earlier in the year, so that might be a good omen. Check it...

I'd love to see the Pumpkins and Foo Fighters as well but I can't see them all being squeezed on to one bill. Sadly this isn't North America....

If the Pumpkins are there I'll go along and see them, then spend the rest of the day checking out the lesser known bands. Can't say any of the other rumoured "Big names" appeal to me. Apart from Arcade Fire of course, but I'm praying they aren't at the BDO, they're better than that.

So bands like RATM, or past bands that have headlined like Muse or Tool aren't better than that?

How is someone 'better' than the BDO? It's only one of Australia's biggest music festivals! I'm all for them getting good bands back there again...

Not really into RATM, Muse or Tool so I can't comment on them.

If they come to the BDO, I'm sure they'd play their own side shows. How many bands don't?

I am a massive fan of Arcade Fire, but they are a level below RATM and Muse.
Not a fan of Tool really but they are still much bigger then Arcade Fire

good get that one, fits right in with the big day out schedule... the sydney BDO is set for the 24th, with melbourne being the 27th... wouldn't be hard for bands to get from Hobart to Melbourne over the weekend...
