I love how except for 2005 and 2009, it works out that we've drafted players from the one club.

Tom Hill was finally drafted and selected by the Dogs.

Surprised when I saw that, could've sworn he joined GWS at the start of the year, and he was at the ceremony the other night.
Sorry for the silly question, but did he merely change his mind and leave to enter the draft or what?

Must say, ecstatic with the draft also, everyone talking about not getting Talia last year, well now we've got Lucas, Watson and McCarthy. Pretty sure that's a win :p.

This is the happiest I've been after a National draft for a long time, absolutely stoked with Watson AND McCarthy, many scribes were saying we would take McCarthy at pick 18, thus missing out on Watson, but to get both is a blessing

Mitchell looks like he's a competitor with good size up forward so those 3 will play a major role in our team for the years to come

My girlfriend is very uncomfortable with my request that she wear a Wayne Hughes mask whilst I make sweet, sweet love to her tonight.

AAHAHAHHAHHaahh! :thumbsu:

Ratts said, McInnes and Duigan can both run through the midfield at times so could be handy. Also mentioned that we needed more experience and that Duigan will provide us with that.

:D Good work. If I swung that way, and was in Melbourne, Wayne might have been in a bit of trouble himself. That's how happy I am with this draft.

Watson is a guy that I was really hoping we could get. As for McCarthy, I recognize the name but don't know too much about him. People are saying we almost took him with pick 18, so to get him AND Watson is great. With our third pick, Mitchell is another guy that I was really hoping we could snag with one of our mid-range picks, so I'm stoked that we got him as well. I didn't know what to expect with the last two picks, but from what I have read on those two players, I am pretty happy with who we got. McInnes sounds like a really solid and smart backman who will add to our depth down back, and I know nothing about Duigan other than that he's 26, but I don't see any harm in us taking a chance with our last pick.

I just got home from dinner so I have just found out who we picked, and I have to say that this has really made my night. I'm a happy little Blues fan right now.

Club by club: what the recruiters said
"We had a long discussion about what we wanted to do with this draft, considering Gold Coast and Greater Western Sydney were factors. We decided we could be really specific this year and that is the way we went about it. Not that we felt we ignored anyone super-talented.

"We thought these were some positions we needed to address and we've addressed them. We've got a couple of key position defenders, a key forward and two very determined half-back types.

"The coach always tells me he doesn't want anyone who's not a good kick, so that was a key priority."

Didn't want Pitt to go to Fremantle.

Might prosper on a ground as large as Subiaco and hurt sides with the way they move the ball quickly.

Typical Freo selection with his height and ability to run.

Wayne Hughes specials are in vogue with Geelong also keen on taller mids like Smedts, Duncan and Menzel.

+ infinity times 40 Billion. :thumbsu::thumbsu: Pretty sure...

Anyone volunteering to take on the Hawks with Sewell, Lewis, Mitchell, Hodge and Hallahan winning the hard ball?

And you just have to run with Smith, Burgoyne, Rioli, Bateman, Franklin and Young who will use their pace.

Litherland might be another Schoenmakers/Stratton/Birchall type pick to play back.

More of the same again.

WOW we did well withour first 2 picks!

Mitchell at 42, there are some decent draft predictors on this board!:thumbsu:

Anybody notice that aside from the Gold Coast, Carlton were the team that got quite a few cheers from the public onlookers tonight?

I recall Monkey King arguing about Carlton's popularity interstate. This is particularly true in WA and Queensland.

Wasn't sure if it was because I was particularly observant on the Carlton picks but I certainly noticed it.

great draft :)

Have some notes on duigan...will post tomorrow...he is a real goer...provides some dash off hb....plays much taller than 186 and a better kick than army...afl ready

Blues shore up the spine in five
“He (Mitchell) missed the majority of the year with an injured shoulder which he had operated on earlier on,” Hughes said.

“He came back and kicked five goals in the Grand Final having managed to play the last three games of the year. I think that if he’d played all year he would have been more highly-rated than some clubs had him at, and we liked him last year because we thought he showed enormous potential.”

“He was another player our recruiting staff liked a lot of,” Hughes said. “He just gets the job done, is good in a contested marking situation, is another left footer and a good kick. He structurally controlled the way Dandenong went with defence this year and he was a very important player in the preliminary final . . .”

CFC TV: Matthew Watson

Love the cheer from his family.

If his uncle is Alessio, then we finally got another Italian playing for the Blues.
