only real standout player from either side was a lad you might have heard of - he plays on the left, he plays on the riiiiiiight. scored the winner, and left to a standing ovation from his former fans, a nice touch.

VDS made a couple of smart saves. and there was a lad on their side, forget his name, poncey ponytail but makes a good cross.

VDS was my MOTM. (and easily)

The key point is they weren't merely 'smart' they were infact ****ing spectacular.

Saves like such don't occur frequently.

One was made at 0-0.

The other at 1-0, right near the end.

Ronaldo was excellent in the second half but there was only one match winner.

He was VDS.

Credit where it's due.

Yeah, definately wouldn't have won if it wasn't for VDS, he was fantastic.

You also need that extra bit of class for a 1-0 and Ronaldo was the only other one to really step up, the rest of the team get 6's and 7's.

The passing was quite poor all night, was quite frustrating, the pitch was soft and came up quite easily but that wasn't much of an excuse, it could have been a lot better, we still have tonnes of improvement in us.

Good to see Rooney back, he just gives us that bit extra up front, Tevez didn't start so they still haven't played together yet.

carlitos! good to see him get off the mark. Great ball by giggs.
Bad refeering but whatever.
Good to get the 3 points.

Does anyone know if our match against AS Roma will be shown on SBS???

Surely that game will be better then anything else offered on that matchday.
yep,

the roma game on wednesday morning. (live/the first one)

the second morning is Liverpool-Marsielle. (not that you lot would care)

Damn it. In Western Australia the secong game is shown again to fill in the 2 hours to fill in the time before going back to regular scheduling, if we were the late game, i could watch Man Utd play twice, if we playthe same as last time against Roma i wqould get to watch 14 quality Man U goals.

Ah well, early morning again. 2:30am start

Chelski are now almost certainly out of the title race, no coach, no confidence no talent.

Lap it up Chelsea, Roman will leave and you will be the next Leeds

hahahha
The owner is their Manager! They're going to have the most expensive squad but managed so poorly. Shame all that talent wont be showcased for a better team.

you mean like arsenal who apparently were supposed to be just making up the numbers look like they could be a contender this year??

should be out of liverpool/arsenal for the title.

chelski are definitely out, they draw/lose another 2-3 games, they will be at least 4/5 games off the pace and that is damn difficult to make back up.

....

Doesn't the same sort of thing happen at AC Milan?

How have they been going lately?

When Chelsea get Ballack, Drogba, Lampard and Ballack back into the team I'm sure they'll go alright. Even if they have 'no talent'.
They'll be around the mark. And it's also worth nothing that they've already played 2 of their hardest 3 fixtures for the season. Those being Liverpool and Manchester United away. So things will get easier. Especially when the aforementioned players return.
I don't think they'll win the title but only a fool would write them off at this stage.

Grant did ok.

Only criticisms being,

- a little negative w/ defensive mid's. but his hand was forced a little with the absentees of Ballack and Lampard. I guess 2 up front with only 2 defensive minded mid's would've been the more sensible/attack minded option

- Ben-Haim preferred to Alex was a little sus

- Ferreira > Belletti? I'm not sure about that. Belletti has been excellent for Chelsea so far

- related to the defensive mid's but one up front? Shevchenko and Pizarro probably should've started with Malouda and SWP providing the width.
obviously the manager had different philosophies.

Chelsea's game (before the sending off and after) was alot of short passing. Some of the stuff looked pretty good. Against weaker teams, they have the players to be very, very dangerous/potent.
Lets give this Grant guy a fair go? (football fans in general that is)
I'd like to see what he can do for a bit longer before passing judgement on him. OT Trafford away, w/10 men for 2/3's isn't an easy introduction.

I'd say we still have a massive chance, being September and all
where is the manchester city thread?

three points in a big game is nice, but we were battering them before the sending off and all it's done is given the ABU brigade more to squeal about. much better performance from united all round than the last few though. even carrick looked pretty sharp on the ball for a change, and maybe I was wrong about giggs, there was a bit of a spring in his step again. I'd like us to be a bit cuter in front of goal though, for all the possession and plenty of chances the finishing still isn't quite there.

where is the manchester city thread?

Not all of us need a happy clappy, back slapping, sycophantic thread to discuss their team. ;)

Anyone who is writing off Chelsea already I suspect will end up pretty disappointed.

United 2 - 0 Chelsea.

Carrick MOTM, his passing was just unbelievable, set up two wonderful Giggs chances which should have been put away, head it next time Ryan, stop this hitting it on the volley crap.

Back four looking pretty solid, Brown is still a bit of a liability to pace at RB but his aerial ability and tackling makes up for it.

Very happy for Carlos to get off the mark and what a gutsy goal it was, just at the right time too. Saha needs to start games, he is too good to be played off the bench.

Back four was never tested.

No strikers, or attacking midfielders against 10 men.

Bigger tests await.

Starting with AS Roma one would imagine.
7-1.

They will be shitting themselves over having to return to the Theatre of Dreams.
