Given that SA's regd. female player nos. are dwarfed by Vic. & Qld., it would be very surprising if "3 of the top 6 rated U18's in the country were from SA".
Who are these 3 players, who made this declaration, & on what basis?

Given that Qld. female AF is booming, & has almost as many regd. female players as Vic., has any official/expert assessment been made as to why local Qld. female players do not feature more prominently in the Draft?
As Brisbane has entitlement to all of Qld./NSW Northern Rivers comp. players, can it be said that they are not developing their very large base sufficiently?

This was from an interview/discussion last year, to which the only link is my memory of it, which is patchy. It was a discussion involving AFLW pundits (Vics) talking things draft. The comment (it was someone who would know, possibly Chloe Kurdos, which was why I noted it) was along the lines, By the numbers, 3 of the best 5 or 6 under u18s coming through are from SA. I do not know what numbers, or where they were assessed, and they did not give names. It was just a comment by someone that would know, that stuck.

I do not even think it included Chloe Scheer, as she would have been drafted last year if she hadn't done her knee, so there is a 4th.

I would point out that over a short term of 1 year, there is not a great relationship between base and talent at the top. Vic over a period of time produces a lot more talent than a WA or SA in mens, just by weight of numbers, but both WA and SA have produced individual U18 teams full of talent that have dominated

Destination club my arse. Id love to see how many North AFLW players have staff jobs now, given they cant possibly be paying them all under the same band payments other clubs were. Its the friggin 70s all over again at North.

The "foundation" clubs are paying the price for the AFL excluding the club with the strongest relationship with local Victorian womens football. The Dog's and Dee's held a mickey mouse rep game for a couple of years.

North and MUWFC have been running clinics together since the mid 2000's, MUWFC have used the North facilities and physio's if needed since Arden St was re-developed, as most of the girls in their videos have said, they consider it coming home, they've considered themselves North players from the very start.

You're lucky we weren't a foundation club, as the likes of Blackburn etc would be here as well.

Actually, the Dogs and Dees had a longer relationship than the exhibition games, including sponsoring the VWFL competition.

North is the new kid on the block compared to the Dogs and Dees (thanks to the work of Debbie Lee), but would agree they've done more than the Blues, Pies, Cats, Tigers, Saints, etc...

It means 6 Vic teams will expand by 33% to 8, a smaller expansion with less dilution than the 50% this year. Freo and Brisbane will be hit hard with a 100% expansion, but they have this year and 2019 to prepare. Crows will be sitting pretty, but i think they will start to lose more players, as players do the math, and figure there might be 6 or 8 spots up for grabs in SA, but 12 or 16 in WA or Qld, and 36 or 48 in Vic. Lets see if the standard drops this time before worrying about next time, i am not sure it will.

How good are the NT Thunder does Darebin remain the gold standard. Geelong and Collingwod unbeaten. Note three of the four cellar dwellers. Where are the boisterous North Melbourne Tasmania Kangaroos now waiting on Brisbane and Tasmania.


Will the VFLW be reshaped by the ‘Sign and Trade Period’? Domino 1 is Lily Mithen to Darebin after re-committing to Melbourne.
Largely all the clubs with players signed to expansion clubs have lost Ruckman and most need an Inside Midfielder a Key forwards would be handy.

NAT – Non Aligned Talent. With 5 of 13 clubs being subsidaries of AFLW clubs while 1 has an alignment and 1 with a relationship. How do we view the six clubs Darebin, Williamstown, Essendon, Hawthorn, Southern Saints and Richmond.

Danielle Ponter will she be drafted to a Victorian club. AFL Academy moved from Darwin to Essendon

Note what is happening now ‘The AFLW sign and trade period runs from May 23 to June 4, with the eight foundation clubs able to re-sign up to 23 of their 2018-listed players.
Expansion clubs Geelong and North Melbourne are not able to sign 2018 AFLW players but can add open-aged players (over 18 and didn't play AFLW this year) at any time.
There is a free agency period for delisted players from June 4 to June 7, with preliminary lists to be lodged on June 8.’

What is a good number for Geelong and North to draft?

Scenario North try to sign some of the Carlton VFLW new recruits Jess Edwards from SA or Louella McCarthy or Chloe Dalton Rugby Union. They refuse can North accuse Carlton of tampering with the draft.

The free agency period does that include players who were de-listed in 2017?

The Brisbane Lions AFLW side will be bolstered by the leadership and experience of Carlton’s inaugural captain Lauren Arnell, after the midfielder signed with the Club for the 2019 season today.

Arnell comes to the Club after the Lions traded Nicole Hildebrand to Collingwood for pick 40 at the forthcoming AFLW Draft. They then exchanged pick 40 to Carlton for Arnell.

The 31-year-old was at the forefront of the inaugural women’s league and helped Carlton place their bid for a women’s team licence.

Before AFLW, she won eight VFLW premierships with the Darebin Falcons and has been named as an All Australian three times.

In 2017 Arnell played all seven games for Carlton and this year played four matches.

She balances her football career while working as an Education and Training Manager at AFL Victoria and is a member of the AFLPA Women’s Advisory Committee.

Brisbane Lions Women’s CEO Breanna Brock is thrilled a woman with such a distinguished resume is joining the Lions.

“Lauren will provide great mentoring for our young group and new players coming on to the list,” Brock said.

“She’s an outstanding person and has done so much for the women’s game. We look forward to working with such an experienced campaigner and can’t wait to see her pull on the Lions colours.”

Arnell is expected to visit the Lions' training facilities this week and meet the rest of the playing group.

If it was to happen, pick order doesn't matter to Freo, so giving up pick one for Parker plus pick 18 is the same as getting Parker for nothing, so why would Collingwood give a pick as high as 18. Makes no difference to Freo

I acknowledge that but shouldn't Freo ask. Husband studying Medicine in Perth and she is currently playing at Subiaco. She has only played 2 games for Collingwood. Freo thinks it is a bargain because they give up something they consider worthless but pick 4 would have value to Collingwood

Depends how she goes for Subi I guess. If she looks like a player who they would have drafted if available, then the deal makes sense, otherwise no.
