Offsider's Phantom Draft
Okay so I have had no time this year but i really want to put my opinions out so here we go.
I am very sorry for the shortness soz.
1. GC: David Swallow
Derrr
2. GC: Sam Day
Derrr
3. GC Harley Bennell
Derrr obvious all 3
4. WC Andrew Gaff
Next best player will suit WC nicely inside/outside elite endurance and good speed, neat skills, high disposal efficency, should be a gun, a fair bit of potential left.
5. BL Jared Polec
Next best player, suits the Lions really well, plays both on the outside and the inside nicely, finds own ball, good mark, good pace and agiliy and uses it, disposal good although can float. Lians need pacey mids and Polec will suit them.
6. Rich Shaun Atley
First surprise, Tiggers go Atley, he has very good pace and agility, above average disposal, good defensive game, no real weaknesses would like to see him be a bit more damaging. Disposal underrated on here as he is dual sided.
7. GC Jack Darling
GC probably won't take him but he is the 4th best player in the draft IMO, but slipps due to head injuries and off-field stuff and height.
8. ESS Dyson Heppsell
I think Essendon will snap up Heppsell who has slipped, reasonable pace and agility, excellent kick to position, improve his decision making a bit though, great overhead and defensively, a good HBF/mid prospect.
9. GC Brodie Smith
A very good player, no deficiencies, good disposal, strong and hard at it with good speed and endurance combo, long kick and can win clearances neatly. Really likely type strong overhead and at ground level.
10. GC Tom Lynch
Another with huge potential, pace does scare me though he tested slow and I have seen him struggle a bit on leads yet think this will improve. Great mark and endurance super, willing to work hard and present, doesnt kick many goals ATM is a concern.
11. GC Bille Smedts
Gun utlity so much potential and class whilst Adelaide need a mid, Smedts can play all over and has a very good athletic base, scopes well as a utility in the Goddard mould.
12. MELB Daniel Gorringe
Best ruck in the draft yet this is about his worth, as he is more potential at this stage, like to see him work harder around the ground. Good skills, athletic ability, cleanish below the knees, work on getting more disposals and marks.
13. GC Matthew Watson
Okay originally pre-testing results I had McCarthy just over Watson yet on reconsideration Watson is the best KPD, very strong overhead, elite disposal and rebounder, good atheltic ability, is overweight and needs fine-tuning so this will increase athleticism. Needs to work on his defensive game.
14. ADEL Josh Caddy
A very good inside player, lacks a bit outside, goal kicker with neat disposal. Powerful bullocking type with good speed and endurance, concerns over how this will translate into the AFL level as he may find it harder. Adelaide need mids, considered Pitt and Tape.
15. GEEL Jayden Pitt
A kid who I did forget about a bit for a while but was always high on my radar. An elite dual sided kick, good pace agility and compsure, very outside with no inside game, strong overhead. Geelong could use a nice winger.
16. PA Rhys Conca
Port take a mid, surprisingly and not Lycett, Conca is a well rounded player with no weaknesses, many would say no strengths either but not true, he has good skills, finds the ball well is efficent, tackles strongly, and has reasonable atheltic ability.
17. NM Kieran Harper
The X-Factor, I know Smith is linked to hear, but I rate Harper higher so suck it up. Good pace and agility, nice skill set can do the freakish, scopes well as a mid/HFF so watch out if he reaches his potential, will take some time though.
18. CARL Patrick McCarthy
Calrton go tall and get a player they lack, a CHB type, there is a risk though he may turn out like Bower skinny and a third tall, yet has broad shoulders and should fill out, nice skills good athletic base, projects as a Bock type. Strong mark, yet needs to work on his contested work.
19. HAW Isaac Smith
Hawks need pace and o with Smith who has elite linebreaking pace and good skillful left boot. Clean hands and fairly stong, he can rip a game apart in a short period of time, and is what the Hawks lack, strongly considered Lycett here.
20. FREM Jamie Cripps
This kid is a bit underrated around here, very good pace and neat disposal, good overhead and works strongly defensively but also good on the rebound. Did well as a HBF but when moved onto a wing showed real excitement and flair and kicked goals, clean playe with no weaknesses really.
21. SYD Sebastian Tape
A good classy defender who lacks height, similar to Tayte Pears as a player, some doubts over body work yet good rebound not far behing McCathy IMO. Good skills reasonable kick and clean hands, there is a lot too like.
22. WB Mitch Wallis
durr probs 15+ pick though, lacks hurt factor slightly and no real standout athletic abilities.
23. GEEL Scott Lycett
A gift to the Cats, a gun young ruckman, potential top 10 pick who slides due to need possibly, similar style to Brad Ottens, in that he can ruck and go forward and is a strong mark, good pace and like his attitude and mongrel, reasonably good skills, and clean hands.
24. ST. KIL Ben Jacobs
The saints may need pace but they take Jacobs who is reasonably quick, but is damaging more with his disposal, he has a great kick, strong defensively, good overhead
25. BRIS Luke Parker
Strong and powerful mid with elite endurance and good inside work, also very strong overhead, and a good goal kicker. Strong in the core and can stand in tackles and really break tackles. Good disposal and clean hands, lacks a yard but reads the play well, but by no means slow.
