It doesnt take a rocket scientist to pick up Rattens comments (on the couch) on the O'hailpin boys suggested that this project is a failure. He had nothing encouraging to say about Aisake who is now playing Bullants 2nds despite Clokes injury and Acklands promotion. He also admitted that Setanta is struggling. I love Setanta's passion and work ethic but he is now 25 years old and still pretty far off the standard of a decent AFL player and with his age doesnt have much if any time left to improve. If he ever did improve to to an elite standard in say 2 years, he could give us 2 years of good service before his body would start to limit his ability.

I know alot of people are in denial, and are biased with their opinions, but its safe to say this project has failed. Were not going to play finals with the calibre of these players in our team!

Well at least you can take solace in the fact that the Irish experiment worked for Melbourne and is working for Sydney, Brisbane and Collingwood

If you are right and I'm heading that way myself, I just hope we haven't damaged his skills at hurling. That would be the ultimate in disappointments for everyone involved. He is still young enough to get back into the sport we took him from, he'll just be getting ____all money for it.

You lose your compass again, ____wit?

Dont worry about Carlos. He has already surpassed that key defender Prestigiacomo ;)

Funny that, Jonathon Brown when asked who is the toughest defender he has play against answered Simon Prestigiacomo, whose opinion is more valid to me, yours or Jonathon's let me think.

Please dont give this Collingwood twit the satisfaction of even replying to his posts. All he wants is a response, just ignore him!

Only interested in people thoughts on the post!

A waste of time.

Cant understand why we haven't even given Aisake a game yet, for all the potential he has, why not give him a game at AFL level (at least back when he was playing decent footy for the Ants)

Does this mean I am a rocket scientist?

The sort of negative crap we are sick of - much more fun to reply to Collingwood twit

Terrible thread.

I wouldn't call the recruitment of the O'hAilpins a failure when Setanta has a come long way and done it harder as a defender han any other recruit. Playing KPP and ruck is hard enough for an Australian such as Laycock and Dawson to master, let alone two hurlers who were born in Ireland and switched codes.

The "Irish experiment" hasn't failed.

Ratten didn't mention Michael Shields.

dont forget santanta missed nearly all of the pre season as did aisike

see how much a lack of pre season has hindered a champion like judd

well imagine the impact is has on someone who has only played the game for 4 years?

a full preseason under their belts and then we can judge, next year will be the defyining year

on the fence myself. struggle to see how a-sacky will make the list next year. Needs to pick up in form big time

If you think outside the square, Aisake was brought here so Setana had family support.....if he developed as well as Setana that was an added bonus.

Nominations have closed for the best all time avatar!! That is the funniest pic i've seen in a long time!!

Marty Clarke cost the Pies 2 games this year, by letting his opponent kick match winning goals late in the game i.e. V Blues and V North. His trademark round-ball type floaters are becoming a liability and provide plenty of rebound opportunity for your opponents. There's a bit of a difference between what's written in those HUN-Collingwood Newsletter overhype liftouts and reality. :)

Fairly tough marking here. Setanta played what many believe to be his best game for the club just two weeks ago...and as already acknowledged, he has had an interrupted preparation this year.

Must have some fairly lofty expectations if that constitutes a failure.

Agree. I really don't understand the criticism. He's not in brilliant form, but is far from a liability. Thought he did well on J Brown holding him to 3 goals when he was in red-hot form and getting plenty of midfield delivery. Setanta will get better with more games under his belt. He's a great matchup for the Gorillas. This year he has dropped weight and is a lot faster. His closing speed on Brown was impressive. :)

Admittedly I havn't watched on the couch yet (taped it and will tonight)... but perhaps Ratten said some of those things to Gee up the Irish's to motivate them to work hard and get some good form up.

Let's remember coaches have been known to use the media as a coaching tool!

This is true. Setanta is now in the transition from project player in a struggling team, to just another player fighting for a spot in a rapidly improving highly talented young team. Selections aren't as automatic as they once were. There is a strict gameplan and expectations and plenty of players competing for positions. When Jamo and Thornton are fit, spots in the defensive half will be hard to get, especially with Austin gaining form and putting his hand up for senior selection. This is all good though, because it will challenge Setanta to take his game to the next level. I think he can. :)

I'd take Brown's word for it, only I haven't seen his word... got a link?

Brown also once said Carlos was going to be scary to play on with a few more years development.
