Stupid to build a whole lot of new facilities for "legacy benefits" spread out over the whole state for such an event.
I dont know where the $4bil blowout has happened but it should be in a city less spread out than over a whole state, and use plenty of existing infrastructure.
Maybe back to back Games in Birmingham.
I know Canada is interested in the 2030 Games as it will be the Centenary Games which the 1930 Games in Hamilton, Ontario.
Hamilton - Toronto is very similar to Geelong-Melbourne, about 80km apart and the smaller city is about 1/10th the size of the bigger city.
Toronto had a very ambitious bid/plan for 2012 Olympic Games and was going to use it to help redevelop docks and wharf areas near downtown Toronto. But they pulled out when they won 2010 Vancouver winter games. Dont know how interested they are in using Comm Games as part of a longer term bid for Olympic Games and how much of that land set aside for redevelopment near downtown has been sold by local and provoncial governments in the last 20 years.
