Well maybe wait a month
The marquee signing never came. I had a Squiz down there last Thursday morning, the maintenance crew were all on deck and the surface looked pristine after a fresh working over from the blades. I just hope when hard calls need to be made the right men are on on deck, that’s my major concern. As I’ve learned over the years, in this footballing business, strong leaders don’t give a damn about making friends, they do what’s right for the club, at all cost. Something to think about.

How is it being negative troll? Stating the facts that big $$$ have been paid for players that arent going to be match winners. Those words from an ex legend of the club and recent committee member so fair to say the info is most probably on the mark.

Hope they dont fall in a hole after xmas the town and league need them in the league . Lets just hope the current Committee starting from the President down go down the right path and the blokes that they have paid overs for are there for more than 1 year
It would be nice if all those businesses that got their heads on TV bemoaning the loss of the club to the town and loss of income now support Corowa financially... is that a flying pig? It's nice to see the council have erected a seven foot spear topped spiked fence around the perimeter of John Foord Oval presumably to keep the crowd in. One hopes that no-one tries to scale it because they'll impale themselves! What moron approved that?

This will be the biggest story of 2024 if Corowa can get a team on the park and set themselves up for a disciplined five year a rebuild.

Zimmer frames to the fore!... it's one big retirement village.

Across the river we have Wahgunyah :)

John Longmire at Corowa training tonight. I hope they get a bumper crowd and some local interest.

Maybe a couple of Federation Councillors could attend.
There was ~50 adults (don’t shoot me as maths wasn’t my top subject), a whole bunch of kids training, “seniors” trained for an hour… hope springs eternal.

A long road ahead but what’s at stake is 150 kids and young adult footballers and netties playing a team sport, keeping fit, socialising, improving their skills.

There’s nothing more important in a community.

Longmire looked like he enjoyed every minute of it.

Any Councillors?

Hello, the blame game is starting.
What blame game?

There was a flood, a massive one, recall that?

There’s a job for councils to do it’s bit and get the community back on track. What other community based organisations are there to rival a football and netball club? Can you enlighten me as to what council have done to assist?

I’ve been wondering the same thing. What has the local council/government done to support Corowa in their time of need?
From what I can gather it’s been between zero and f**k all

So you want mayor Pat Bourke and his deputy "Magro" Whitechurch in charge of recruiting after attraction of players has slowed to a halt in last month?
Maybe have a chat with the Corowa cricket club to see what they do in attracting, retaining talent and facility enhancement.

Would’ve thought the local council or state government would’ve done something regarding the fast tracking of fixing the public owned facilities that were in place before they got destroyed in the floods.
Didn’t say anything about helping with recruits dumba**

Ease up.
I will maintain the club's biggest priority is numbers. Without them they're doomed.
It's already been reported that the club wants and should get new facilities that are built up and can withstand future floods. They will happen again. But "fixing" what is at JFO is not a smart use of public money. Everyone agrees with that. It's big dollars involved and in case you haven't been taking any notice the shire is under pressure to fix roads, make its new pool viable. You can't snap fingers and the money falls out of the sky. The first question the people with money (state and fed governments) will ask is what is the long-term viability of the club and how many different user groups are there. We're not hearing much about the netball side of things either. So it's numbers, numbers, numbers. And on that front there hasn't been much news for a while. Sorry these are the facts. Sorry if this is an uncomfortable truth. Merry Christmas

Why would Peta D ease up as you were the clot with the smart arse answers?

“Everyone agrees with that” you say about smart use of public funds. I don’t! Smart use of public funds by a Council, gimme a break! You’re a law unto yourselves. You’ve just put up rates by 20% with more of the same over the next few years. What’s your target, 80% increase wasn't it?

Let's break this down one by one.
1. The club's biggest priority is numbers. Is there enough players at December 21 to field three footy teams?
2. It's already been reported that the club wants and should get new facilities that are built up and can withstand future floods. This was reported in Border Mail a few week ago and all parties quoted in story were in agreement even though the long timeframe of multiple years wasn't ideal.
3. It's dollars involved. Estimates range between $3-5m
4. Shire is under pressure to fix roads, make its new pool viable. Roads are shite everywhere and the shire floated outsourcing the pool to group who specialise in running pools.
5. The first question the people with money (state and fed governments) will ask is what is the long-term viability of the club and how many different user groups are there. Again a reality of applying for grants that are often keenly fought for.
6. We're not hearing much about the netball side of things either. Accurate statement

There's an old saying start arguing with fools, soon you can't tell the difference.

And with council involved the budget will double and then some and the timeframe will double and then some. Go find a support group for Council operatives and get off the footy forum.

You’ve lost it, all I was asking was if there was any support coming for local council and or state government to help out. Didn’t realise it was such a touchy subject.
By the way, I really hope you have nothing to do with the local council. The strength and popularity of the football club is a direct reflection of the state of Corowa as a whole. The last 5-10 years it resembles a ghost town, nearly more shops and pubs for sale than what’s actually open for business.
No point fixing the roads, nobody is going there anymore.

Judging by this comment you had already made up your mind.
