I believe we do not have any non ticketed members, and Tasmania have a ONE game ticket, (beside the general memebrship ticket)which is NOT included in the memberships. 7000 in Tassie is a pretty good effort, considering only 3 years ago we only had 3000...

Yes, it is an incredibly low number of non-ticketed members the hawks have (~160)
It is strange a club like Richmond has nearly 9,000.

You would almost suspect the hawks have an expert at manipulating numbers at the helm ;)

Pretty hard not to make a profit when ya sell 5 games interstate.

Its three, but ill let you make things up to suit your argument, so why couldnt North make millions out of Canberra? Didnt the Dees sell games to Brisbane?

So your saying its as easy as that for clubs to make profit? How derelict are the Melbourne administration then not to put there hand up for this supposed pot of gold

Hawthorn havent just 'sold' games to Tassie, they have embraced the local community, they have set up junior programmes down there and have in general made a real effort to make Tassie supporters feel part of the club

If you want to slag off at Hawthorn because our administration is well run and has secured our future, more fool you. Better too petition your sorry club to look at the Hawk model and learn something

Maybe it's time that Melbourne did the same..We did what we had to do, to make the club a viable, profitable, and debt free club.. To make $5M from membership sales this year is NOT to be sneezed at!! At least we have NEVER gone to the AFL with cap in hand to survive.
The club has worked hard over the last 13 years to get where we are.. We did it "The Hard Way", not the easy way, by going to the AFL for a handout.. Anyone can do that.
Many of our members were not happy about the Tasmanian deal, but they can now see the results of that, and in years to come..Sometimes you just have to make sacrifices to get results, and that's exactly what the club has done..

The Hawks only have 2 ‘non ticketed’ membership categories – MCC Supporter and a 1 game Tasmanian membership. Richmond by contrast has numerous categories, so even if some Hawthorn fans purchase multiple memberships (like all clubs and all power to them) they are purchasing memberships that are approved within AFL guidelines

At the end of the day does it matter who purchases them as long as they are purchased by supporters?

How many non ticketed members do Essendon, Collingwood, Geelong, Carlton, Brisbane, Sydney, West Coast and Adelaide have...how do you know 160 a record low?

Pretty hard not to make a profit when ya sell 4 games interstate.

Melbourne sold 2 games Interstate a few years ago and made a multi million dollar loss

As others have said its not just the raw membership numbers that are the be all and end all, Hawthorn have 20,000 reserve ticket holders and with 70k gates against Geelong and Carlton so far this season would have made a healthy packet on those games, likewise they wouldn't have lost money on the Port game (probably a first) that drew a respectable 33k.

As the 2 posters above have said others tried and failed with the interstate games, if its a golden goose for the clubs involved why have North, St Kilda, W Bulldogs and Melbourne all struggled to get any financial benefit out of selling games what so ever?

Very, very well said... How a Melbourne supporter can criticise us, for being successful is beyond me. They should take a leaf out of our book!!! They may just learn something!!
And BTW, our ONE ticket membership in Tassie is not included in our membership numbers!"

This just proves how man bandwagoners the yellow and brown attract, nothing more nothing less. It's only just over 10 years ago that this team almost became extinct. Watch them leave in droves when they start declining. :thumbsu:

At the time one of the main criticisms about the Hawks playing in Tassie was that they would alienate supporters in Vic. With success the complete opposite has happened. Despite playing these games in Tassie, the Hawthorn supporter base has been galvanised. It shows if you do things right and improve on field you can have the best of both worlds. From that point of view they deserve credit. They marketed their foray into Tasmania successfully.

Carlton wont be selling tickets this week on the Gold Coast, they will be selling 'One game memberships'. So expect 15,000 new members for Carlton this week, we'll have 55,000 members all up :thumbsu:

Smart A...e We don't include our ONE game memberships in our total, maybe we should.
Would look much better for us.. We don't cheat, like Carlton...

What a well worded reply. You deserve a pat on the back. I hope your club also succeeds in years to come. It takes time, will not happen overnight..

Just like your supporters, huh.. Not too many turned up last year to celebrate with the players, how fickle were they?? What a disgrace that was.. Poor attendance, it shows when you lose a GF...

Fantastic effort by Hawthorn.... But you do realise that the Crows actually have a waiting list for memberships don't you? The reason the record sits just above 50k is because that is all AAMI can hold.

Will drop below 30,000 next year after the Hawks finish 7th and get knocked out in first week of the finals.

typically uneducated comment from a souless franchise follower....at least our members don't walk out of stadiums half way through games like your fronties....

Hawthorn = Premiers

Eagles = Souless Franchise at best

Hats off to the Hawks; 50k is a huge effort. Many kids born in the late 70's/early 80's who aligned themselves with the most successful team as they grew up would now be on reasonable coin and readily able to go that extra step of buying a membership to support the team, rather than just pay at the gate each time for the handful of games they attend throughout the year.

That being said, I'm rapt that the Cats haven't yet had to resort to moving some of our home games interstate. Was ticked off enough when we had to play the Roos away up at Manuka - one more game I couldn't go to. Maybe the Hawks will bring all of their games back to Melbourne when/if the Tassie AFL side gets off the ground. I'm sure they know what they're doing though.

It's good to see some of the Vic teams turning around their financial woes of the past 20 years or so. Hopefully the Dogs, Roos & Dees can put similar strategies in place to get themselves out of the mire.

Doubt you will even get that many there. The eternal cheating optimists!!

I am not to inclined to get carried away with the Premiership Success that has fueled our current rapid membership growth.
The true sign of great success will be if the club is able to at least maintain the 50,000 over the next 5-10 years. Then we will be able to sit back and pat ourselves on the back and say job well done.

For those Hawk Supporters/Memebers who are quick to slip the boot into other Vic clubs that are currently struggling financially pull your head in. You are giving the club and other members a reputation that is nothing to be proud of.

Rant over:p

Rant over hay .....

Hawk supporters have every right to feel proud of how the club has pulled itself from the brink of merger to 50k membership, is it sustainable who knows, but not just this year but every year since the merger debacle has been a positive for this proud club, all Hawk supporters are doing is expressing what an achievment it is ...

And as for the other part of your rant, and 'giving us bad reputations' all ive read in this thread is Hawk supporters responding to ridiculous trolls saying our membership numbers are flaky ... what do you expect us to do to make you feel 'proud', just sit back and allow these trolls to spew forth there rubbish?

Get a grip

Do the Tassie 1 game members get a vote?

There may be a side in Tassie sooner than we thought.

I agree 100% we have every right to feel proud of what have achieved to this point in time, I have been a paid up memeber for the last 10yrs so have seen us struggle.

All I am saying is the job is not done yet we have reached a great milestone but there is still a lot work to be done before we can say it is a full success. We are currently riding the wave of a premiership it is when this success begins to dip that we can see what membership we are able to maintain.

If you ignore the trolls they will eventually go away, positive posts and no meaningless muck throwing would make this site 100 times better.

Yep your right FH, im just frustrated that noone can have a sensible discussion on the main board even though there has been a Bay 13 created for that other rubbish ..

Ill have to learn some self control and not bite!
