I always liked the way Akermanis played the game but I didn't like his off field inability to know when to talk and when not to talk, it was his mouth that got him sacked from the club.

His articles on gay players staying in the closet was the start, leaking information to the media about player meetings was the straw that broke the camel's back.

his off field stuff was fairly consistent at the dogs as it was at the lions

you knew what you were getting and it was part of the transaction cost of taking him… expecting him to behave differently off field was probably not realistic

Top 4 means nothing. Only 1 team succeeds every year.
You guys had a quality side, for a long time...and couldnt win one.

We were unlucky to have that period during Geelong's reign, while also not having the top end talent of St Kilda, Hawthorn and Collingwood at various stages. Despite having "such a talented list" we were never minor premier, or favourite heading into any prelims.

But could have been worse. We could have made a prelim and then bombed back to mediocrity the year after like the Crows did. Whilst losing a key player thanks to their inept leadership.

I find it perplexing a crows supporter continues to throw stones about the failings of other clubs

So are there 17 rabbles every season??? To call the Dogs of 2008-2010 a rabble is a ridiculous, laughable comment.

Shock horror, Akermanis said something silly. He hasn't done that before!

I can understand the dislike from some Doggies (and otherwise) supporters - I wouldn't want to hear that about my club or players I like.

Bloody good watch though.

The one thing that sticks out is people saying 'cries for attention' when Aker makes it pretty clear in the interview this is pretty much what he does for money nowadays. Thought he answered very well...mostly. He did try to dance around a few of the questions.

No two separate things.
There are 17 sides that dont succeed every year.

The bulldogs were a rabble in certain areas, leadership specifically.
Aker is NOT the only one to have stated this publicly.

Mate cmon. Mediocrity? The bulldogs are the definition of that.

If you want to compare the two clubs:
When did the team last make the finals?
When did the team last make a grand final?
When did the team last finish bottom 4?

Do those 3 and get back to me.

Wow, just another precious, deluded club jumping at shadows #standbyaker

Would have thought that it would be 'buyer beware', with regards to employing a loose cannon like Akermanis as a senior coach at any level and has little in common with the issues he had during his playing days at Brisbane and the Bulldogs.

Media could definitely work for him. Does anyone think he couldn't fill a Sam Newman role effectively? He was born for it. If Fox Footy has any brains, it would sign him up to breath a bit of life into at least one of its four million 'guys talking at a desk'/'guys talking on a couch' shows during the week. Whether you love him, hate him or are indifferent towards him, I can't imagine that many people would prefer to watch Tony Shaw on League Teams than Aka. And what if On the Couch next year had Dunstall, Voss and Akermanis? I know I'd be interested to watch that. You could also have him on that train wreck show Bounce, instead of Andrew 'why am I here?' Gaze. Even as an assistant coach, he could be ok. But any role where he is expected to be the main face and spokesman for a footy club is fraught with danger.

Tried that already and failed miserably - you don't recall his wonderfully successful stint with MTR? Why would you, ratings were so pitiful that no known human in Melbourne actually listened to it. And now he's failing at coaching teams in the bush leagues. Where to next?

Think about some of the ordinary footballers who have either gotten gigs in the media or in the AFL? Most of them weren't fit to wipe Akermanis' boots as a player. And yet nobody in the footy fraternity is the slightest bit interested in hiring this train wreck in any capacity whatsoever.

I don't even know what MTR is, so it's a bit hard for me to make a judgment on whether he was good, poor, or somewhere in between.

That doesn't change my opinion that I can't see any reason whatsoever that he couldn't do the same or a better job, in a similar role as Sam Newman, or Tony Shaw.

MTR was a radio station that failed on all fronts..it lasted for about 5 mins, (probably about 3-4 months in reality)

...it wasn't just Aker that failed, nor did it fail because of him. All concerned with the station failed.

I think my teams attitude was pretty poor regarding Aker. It seemed they believed every little thing had to be perfect to win a flag.
And they would be correct about that.
About a hundred things have to go right for a club to win a flag. And a bit of luck is also needed. Quite a few of the things that need to go right, are outside the club's control, thus a sensible club would do everything within its power, to get the things it can control, spot on. I don't begrudge them for being a little nervous about that aspect. Aker's antics were an unnecessary distraction in the end.( but it wasn't why they didn't go further in their quest)
