We've played one home game at the MCG for the last three seasons now.
We only usually get one other away game there.
I hope we get that game vs Collingwood, but would just prefer if that was round 1 and there was no gather round.

Outside of that, all Collingwood said was, we've done two Round 0's (the only Vic team to do so), and it's time for another Vic team to head North as a part of Round 0. Seems pretty reasonable.

the OP's F1 bit means nothing, as this year you had the McLaren Giants playing the Demons during the race (plus some rainy conditions). An actual night game is an improvement on 2025, gives clear air to both. As long as its the only Melb game that weekend and you give the practice and qualifying clear air too.
Opening Round 2025 in a year where northern FTA viewers were no longer guaranteed to see every game live involving their two sides (like in 2012-24) was also a mockery that rang hollow.
the narrow promotion of the QClash this week as 'backpage' and 'great for footy in Queensland' is similarly cringe, like they are unaware of the excitement for the Broncos Raiders final this weekend. Just let the footy rise to the occasion and speak for itself please.

When you get on one every two months it's a novelty. A little holiday from the shitty Melbourne scene and weather.
Start doing it more regularly the novelty wears off and the kms and hours spent sitting in a pressurised cabin banged up after a game add up.

Yes but if they want to grow the game in the North makes sense to have a full round of games
So every team have to do another "Gather round" except Collingwood and their opponent for that year.

Great, this stupid Opening Round idea nobody asked for hasn't been killed off. I hope there's another cyclone in QLD (okay not really, but you know, some weather event that disrupts it but doesn't cause much damage or harm) which inconveniences the AFL again.

The afl set up opening round on the premise it provides a great deal of exposure for the northeastern teams. The afl want Collingwood involved in opening round because biggest club in the land generates even more interest. Collingwood coach sooks about their virtually non existent travel. AFL cave in and make opening round a vfl game at the mcg. #VICBIAS, fullstop.
