Operation Get Tippett (Officially, finally, over)

There's been a bit of talk about the fact that Sydney won a flag without a dominating key forward. It is interesting that Sydney have now chased a key forward so hard.

Yeah....I'm interesting as who they delist and who they put up for trade...

Am I the only one who is really worried for our list in 4 years? In particularly our Defence and Tall forward options seem to be lacking in the youth department. Merrett and Patfull will be 31, Maguire 32, Adcock 30, McGrath 33 and Staker 32. I would hop that our current crop would be able to sustain a premiership window of 3 to 4 years. Our defence will be aged just as we enter that window/become a genuine premiership threat. For me, we should be working on this part of our list ASAP.

good old tippy went for the money not mums cooking ! how unexpected. eddie will have a field day about the extra salary cap in sydney, he will be right at them just as he was with us. so finaly we cam put this monster to bed and move forward.

carnt see the swans coming up with a trade to keep the crows happy , will be interesting

Still, there's the old chestnut of Tippett walking to the PSD and the implied threat (to Adelaide) of Sydney (or someone else) getting him for nothing.

The real problem that the Crows have is that the other two suitors for Tippett's services (GC and us) are unlikely to be sitting on their hands doing nothing during trade period, on the off chance they might still get him. In other words the Crows chances of getting a fair and reasonable offer for $Kirt (that's what they're calling him on the Crows board, among other things), are severely diminished.

Surely winning the premiership and then signing Tippett to a $1m a year deal will put an end to their extra salary cap allowance regardless of anything Eddie says. It is obvious that it is a relic of an era of the Australian economy and an era of the AFL that has long since changed.

I would be shocked if the AFL didn't act - in which case how long would the Swans be given to come back to the normal cap level (perhaps 2 years)? I can't remember how and when it actually happened to us. In that case signing up Tippett might come back to haunt them.

Although put all that to one side, there is no way it is a done deal just yet. However, having seen how it has all played out so far I really don't think he is worth close to the money being talked about. I don't think any forward is (except for Franklin) - the way footy is played these days has changed so much. Sydney winning the premiership with a bunch of good forwards that are not superstars shows that perfectly.

Will Gai's son open a book on this?.........come on sidskknee.....be sidsknee

God I want to punch Tom Waterhouse in the face.

I love the sheer ridiculousness of his claims that if you bet with him you'll have access to be best betting knowledge and insights. A bookie pretending that he wants to help you make money. LMAO.

Fine Cotton......

The absurdity of it all is beyond me.....

Hope the little prick gets taken to the cleaners.....

There's something really weird about his rapidly blinking eyes right at the end of that ad.

I love his depiction of his headquarters... set up like NASA Mission control with footage of 50 different live sporting events projected on a massive screen at once with him in the middle shouting out live odds to everyone. Do people actually get sucked in to that?

If I'm gonna bet anywhere, it's down at my local TAB. They have free minties.

They make it look a lot nicer then how the Melbourne HQ is described in The Age's feature on him.

Waterhouse is working, with 20 of his staff, in his weekend "office", a gloomy bunker at Moonee Valley Racecourse. The course itself is a ghost town - there are no races here today - but the bunker, a low-ceilinged and exceedingly unglamorous space, is animated by the kind of urgency you see in a termite colony that has just been kicked. There are lots of computers, screens, mobiles, TVs tuned to six race meetings, and young guys with fashionable facial hair

To be honest I am glad he has chosen Sydney, if you want to chase cash that's fine, but has really treated the Crows poorly the last month and I think we are better off without him.

The Swans do have a way of getting the best out of imports, but this is different, my gut says it will fall over.

I agree he has been poor to Adelaide and GCS and us, making us all put resources into an obviously lost cause since Sydney stuck their heads in back in August.

And talking about lying I have to wonder if his manager has actually met him.....

"Obviously he made that decision and I've got to tell you it was a very, very hard decision in itself … it's very hard to look in the eyes of teammates who you've just played a preliminary final with - they were a whisker away from playing in a Grand Final - and say, 'I'm leaving'.

now forgive if I am wrong but he didn't he tell them by a group text message, not quite so heroic

Bravely brave Sir Tippet, brave Sir Tippet ran away..........

Well, imagine looking your team mates in the eyes and saying "Yeah, you guys aren't good enough, so Ima go head to play with the winners and earn myself a bit more money. Toodles!"

I'm fine with Tippett going to Sydney, it will save the Lions a lot of money! Spend it on a mix of quality players from other clubs or spend it on some our current players to encourage them to stay here!

Seeing as the last team I played with was F grade local cricket they would just look at me odd, well odder.

I think we still need to keep adding leg speed and good skills, hence why Clinton Young would be a great pick up. Drummond retires, another left footer slots onto the half back line. If Tippett is out who is the next available fwd/ruck man available. It would be Dawes... Not the worst running around... Then maybe Jesse White.. Who is a former Southport player

Rubbish. You could argue that he may have owed Adelaide something for being his employer for so long, except that having a meeting is no evidence of any decision being made. He hardly owes Suns or Lions anything for letting them make an offer, that's absurd.
The quoted section doesn't say that that is what occured, but that is hard to do that. I imagine it is. Is it fact that he never told team mates prior to the tweet? And if so, big deal.
For the 2800 odd post in this thread, there's a whole lot more bagging the guy since this morning's announcement.
Business is business and at the end of the day he had an offer that gave him a cake he can eat as well.

With Tippett going to Sydney does this mean the clause in his contract does exist? How else would they get him without giving away someone decent, pick 22 isn't going to cut it.

Again proves money can get you over home sickness hey.

Me i'm extremely happy that we missed out one of the most overrated/overpriced players in the game.
